busteredwards, You were there just before I started, you will remember Stevie Duncan ,Hamish Simpson , Andy Grant. Duncan Ross now runs oil fast in Motherwell. I retire next year after 41 years on the fuel. Any new driver starting with certas has to go on 4on 2 off shift pattern. Speaking to the drivers at Ineos and a lot of drivers are looking to get away from certas. They were looking for 6 class one drivers just before November and they could not fill these positions. Yet some of the drivers I speak to are happy in the job.So to the op if you get offered a job at certas go try it and if you don’t like it move on.
41 years eh? we must have crossed paths during that time, I was with BP for many moons, then CPL petroleum, then Brogans. I know Stevie & Andy, can’t recall a Hamish though. Not a job I’d hurry back to, Supermarket fridge work is the cleanest doddle of a job you could get & the money aint too far behind fuel work these days.
Started out with Scottish Oils in Wholeflats road, remember them?
Hi busteredwards , I started in 1976 with Globe petroleum, moved to jet, then ICI petrol then Burmah (p&o) Linfox worked on bp shell sainsbury etc so our paths must have crossed at some time. I only work 2-3 days a week running fuel to Campbeltown along with Andy grant ex brogan.we used to park up in wholeflats road at your old depot with Linfox. Getting back to the original question about certas.they have different pay structures some of the drivers from the companies they took over are on there original hourly rate, new starts are on 4on 2 off and maxed out on hours at weekends. Most of the newer drivers I speak to are only there to get experience and then move on.
