Cement tankers and an update!

Well Well, had my class 2 a couple of months now and things are going REALLY well!

90% of the work i have had has been multidropping on 4 wheelers, with the odd 6 wheeler thrown in for good measure. YES work is scarce out there for noobs, BUT persistence, flexibility and a willingness to work seems to be paying off!

then last week, a break! A call off one of the agencies! “we need someone to learn how to operate powder tankers, do you fancy it?? the work will be full weeks and be fairly regular as were committing time and money to train you up”…

needless to be said i jumped at the chance! there even paying for my CSCS card!

so last week my training started, supposed to take 4 days. I had it cracked in 2 days and saturday morning I took my first load out solo! the trucks are old, but well maintained Scania 114 380’s 8x4s the weight is a bit daunting at first (32T) and the tanks are top heavy necessitating VERY careful cornering on roundabouts so they don’t tip!

im in there next week AND the week after aswell!

needless to be said im feeling rather pleased! Ive learned a transport “specialism” that may serve me well for YEARS to come

There is light at the end of the tunnel, to all you struggling noobs…

The lesson is KEEP AT IT!

Cheers

B…

Great to hear, glad it’s paying off, well done!

Congratulations, I’ve been a tanker driver for16 years and still enjoy it.

That’s great news, good to hear of new drivers getting a start. Was thinking about mixer trucks too. What’s the hours like ? Pay ? Is it mainly going to,building sites ?

That sounds like win-win to me Mr B, I’m very pleased for you.

It’s good to hear a story like this, but it’s got to be stressed that it’s the persistence that gets you there as you’ve noticed.
