CB's, what happened to them?

Breedon on the hill near Ashby de la zouch was good for getting out!!!

A lot of the timber haulage guys use them, so they don’t run into trouble (or each other) on the forestry.

Never got into them, one of the good things about this job is NOT having someone yacking in your ear!

10.4 good buddy :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Defiantly got your frount door

there are still loads of cb’s around our area, the quarry’s even have them in the loading shovels, weighbridge, tar plants etc so its rare to see a tipper without one!

I still have several CB’s, only one that is hooked up and used now and again. Plenty of tipper drivers and timber hauliers use them, as well as farmers. Also the licence was scrapped a few years back.

Anybody remember “Thumblina” from Hertford, or " Pegasus" and “Champagne Lady” from Royston?

nothings happened to them truckiewise in northern Ireland and eire… most would stil have them, and definitely for running the 41/55 and most definitely the 75…always the number 1 must have addition to anything over here… A.M though nothings changed in that repect. it pays to let the Donegal mafia shake the bushes when coming off the boat, and tag on to their shirt tails if you cant be in the rocking chair…you need to be in the 100kms + mode though…

A lot of us moved over to ham radio.

Yet at one time you were not allowed to use them in quarries incase they triggered premature explosions, used to be a sign in Ballidon to that effect, yet virtually every other quarry I went into used them! :unamused: Wouldn’t have been without my rig, it would be like losing my right arm.

Pete.

They were great for getting to know about motorway hold ups or getting directions to a tip.

A lot of less able house bound people with home bases used to get great enjoyment from chatting to the truckers and guiding them in to local places.

Some would talk to the same drivers passing through their area regularly for years on end, perhaps every night to the night trunkers. Helped pass the monotony of the long lonely journey.

Good days indeed, sad it didn’t last. Ever tried having a chat and a laugh with a Tom Tom?
