CB review for Truck & Driver

Truck & Driver has been offered a pair of new CBs to test - a new TTI TCB-1100 and a Midland unit. The only problem is - I haven’t got a clue how to use one!
So, I’m on the look-out for a Trucknet member who would like to test the two products for us.
After you’ve borrowed the two units for a week or two we would need about 400 words (and a couple of photos) comparing the two CBs. Don’t worry if you’ve never had a go at writing articles before, because we are happy to tweek the copy to suit T&D’s style.
We’ve got £75 in the budget for this. Anybody CB-savvy drivers interested?

Is it still legal to use a hand held CB when driving or have things changed since the introduction of the hand held mobile phone laws ?

Yes it is legal as 2 way radios are exempt from the mobile phone laws.

Just to let you know that I’ve found a reviewer. Thanks everyone.

don’t know where you found a reviewer as nobody seems to use them in the uk anymore
every time i see a uk truck on the continent to warn them about traffic or the like they sail on by oblivious to the world around them

you see plenty of tipper drivers with them. so they are out there.

It is only legal to use a CB if you have a handsfree mike,or if you are parked up. As one of you said the tipper boys use them, mainly for telling one another when to get the sheet off or when to start reversing back to the machine etc.

Took mine out. Too many dole whallers sitting playing music or talking ■■■■■ over the top of you.

two way radios (cb included) are excempt from the mobile phone ban.
so whoever told you that are talking out of their arse.

I think limeyphil is correct BUT a driver can still be prosecuted for Driving without due Care and Attention if it was deemed that using such equipment distracted them from the driving task.
That is now more likely to happen as the authorities are on the lookout for those using hand held mobiles so seeing a driver using a CB is likely to get a lot more attention than it did before !!

Twa way radios are exempt only if they don’t have a feature to make phone calls. So ask yourself this… Are the coppers breaking the law using them and driving? Because the digi ones they use here can make phone calls too.

There are supposed to get extra training to do so but I’ll leave it to anyone in the know to confirm or deny that…

I think next months article might be by ‘chocs away charlie’ !!!

Wrong Limeyphil,
My cousin was fined for using a CB radio whilst mobile in an eight wheler tipper in Leominster Herefordshire. So are the Police talking out of their arse

yes they are.

you can get a fine for almost anything, as they know it’s an easy option. however, being found guilty in a court is a completely different thing.

he should learn to read the rules first before acceptinga fine or pleading guilty.
