CB radio

on the radio on thursday morning a cabbi was saying that his 2-way radio
is going to be band and must be removed from his car
if true is this going to affect us truckers with cb’s ?

Think that cabbi is full of the smelly stuff

i notice that on the side of my cb box it says that in the uk you must youse a hands free kit. hawever it also gives a number to phone to bye one. could be advertising.

Ive had a voice activated mike for nearly thirty years, obviously not the same one. You can still get them off the likes of Truck King etc.

I have a CB built in on my truck, but wouldn’t know where to start when it comes to turning it on and calling out across the airwaves…

Any help in teaching me how to turn it on■■?

They are. There is no legal requirement to use a CB hands free.

Do people still use CB radio? I remember them being all the rage many years ago when people were using them illegally, but once they were legalised they seemed to lose interest.

Once all the rugrats got 'em for crimble and the dossers thought it was some form of employment I threw mine in the bin

CB’s were pretty well essential when on tippers for finding works accesses and finding out if the resurfacing gangs etc were ready for you, we stayed on channel 12 so obviously they didn’t help us for traffic holdups and the like. If we were on distance then 19 was used but to be honest there were that many about that I used to turn it off. A lot of loading at quarries was done via CB, tar plants and loading shovels etc used them.

The law banning the use of mobile phones does not apply to any form of two way radio, that said the police have always had the power to prosecute if they think the use of a radio mic affects your driving in any way… :sunglasses:

they yook away the need for a license for low powered cb’s a few years ago. I have one in my 4x4 for marshalling at the quarry but i think the mobile has somewhat obsoleted them.

Absolutely correct.

I asked this question when I took my foundation licence for ham radio 2 years ago.

There is a piece of legislation, conveniently tucked away and not one that many know about, that means it would be difficult for the police to prosecute you for using a handheld microphone, however, they would probably get you for driving without due care and attention.

They giveth with one,and taketh with another.

Ken.

Still use them on tippers.

Be bloomered without them in fact

My cousin was caught using a handheld mike on a CB while driving a 8 wheeler tipper in Leominster about 18 months ago, fined £60, can,t remember if he had points or not.

For using my cel phone I have BlueTooth, if I see a police man while I am using my CB I simply put the mic down… :unamused:

In the early 80’s when I used to pull containers and tilts from Felixstowe, there was a traffic cop with the CB handle " Mr. Chips " who used to patrol the A45.
He was quite a character and pretty fair to us truckers.
Any one remember him?

i dont hold the mic when speaking when i am using my cb i just stick the wire behind the hand brake so it hanging there unless your an unusually quiet talker theres no need to have it any closer to your mouth
