Points and fine no speed awareness course as you were doing 59mph. 57 max and you may have got a speed awareness course (10% +2mph guidance optional) but at 59 I’d highly doubt any chance of a S.A.C.

Regular haunt on that stretch of dual carriageway for camera vans during the day time.

Guidance suggests that courses are offered for speeding of 10% + 9mph over posted limit so I should fall into it but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Haven’t seen the guidance of 10% +9mph, most forced have operate under the guidance I posted but again that is not set in concrete. You can be prosecuted for being just 1mph over a speed limit if they so wish. It is just guidance after all.

Having said that you may be lucky and get a S. A. C however they also hold HGV drivers to a much higher standard so you may find the penalty will be harsher than if you were driving a car.

You will just have to wait and see what happens I guess.

But again the guidance is just that it does not mean a S. A. C will be offered to you.

The 10% + 2mph is a threshold for cameras which will generate the ticket. Some forces use different tolerances (some use 10% + 4mph etc). But yeah 51 in a 50 can be classed as speeding too of course.

The threshold I mentioned is for punishment. Seems the tolerance for being offered a course is 10% + 9mph, so up to 42mph in a 30 and so long as you’re eligible you’ll likely be offered a course. Likewise 53mph in a 40, 64 in a 50, 75 in a 60 and 86 in a 70. Above them I guess it’s points and fine/court.

No offence committed as such if course completed, don’t need to tell your insurer either so well worth doing the course if you get the chance.

Not entirely true, some insurance companies will specifically ask if you have been on a S. A. C within the last 5 years the same as they do for points. So it’s best to check carefully if they ask that specific question. Otherwise insurance could be null and void in the event of an accident.

Although I think you will find you are still supposed to declare any S. A. C to your insurance. After all you have committed an offence of spending, you have been caught and punished by being made to take an education course.

Admiral is the only one that I know definitely demands to know about SAC. There may be others unfortunately…

I did a SAC about 4 years ago after doing 35 in a 30 in my truck. Genuine mistake, thought it was a 40.
Anyway, the guys running the course told us that you don’t have to inform your insurance unless they specifically ask.

Speed awareness courses are available although they are online. Just booked mine after 36 in a 30 zone. 89 quid lighter from my pocket.

In this job if you are running to habitually, (not to mention deliberate) tight schedules in terms of delivery times , you have 2 choices…
You either…
Comply, chase around like a ■■■■ idiot and put your licence and a percentage of your wages at risk.
Or.
You say ■■■■ this, and stick to the legal limit.
Btw I certainlly ain’t a self righteous preacher on this :unamused: , I speed from time to time like the rest of us, but if I’m being asked the downright impossible I sure as hell make sure I get nowhere near the target, …result? I dont get asked again, and next time the job comes up it’s given to one of our illustrious heroes.

If whoever the authorities are realised a lot of firms are push push push, resulting in speeding, aggressive driving and the resulting ■■■■ up situations, why are the usual ‘H&S’ steps not officially kicking in, ‘they’ are are fast enough to apply them in needless and ridiculous situations, so why not in genuine issues that would actually benefit us?

As for me I’m rarely in a rush, my boat chasing days are over, I don’t stress out, so on the whole I stick to the limits 95% of the time, in fact I’m just too ■■■■ good to be true. :sunglasses:
Unless I need to get to something crucial that is ! :bulb:

…like a tv football game on a Saturday afternoon.

If I was Mister Of Transport, I’d have all the speed limit signs linked to the speed limiters with Bluetooth/WIFi/5G, that way no way could an HGV break the speed limit and get busted.

I would also raise the speed limit on Motorways to what it used to be in Analogue days:
6am-10pm 60/65mph (70 at a push)
10pm-6am 80/90mph (or a bit more in a decent motor)

And I would work nights 10 till 6 :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Mine was 71 mph in a 60( car obviously) , course was Lincoln , so + 10% cant be right

If that happened to you up here in the Socialist Republic of Nicola-land, firstly we’re still in the 1950’s so it’s still 40 for hgvs, 59 would mean a trip to court. Secondly, after your dealt with by the court, you’d be called up to Edinburgh to see the TC who will suspend your licence for as long as she wishes. Good old double jeopardy. And btw we don’t even get the chance of a speed awareness course.
And they wonder why there’s a driver shortage
