Peter Smythe:
Local rules govern whether or not you need to stop the engine - but not normally required.

Pete

thats interesting....youd have thought the same rules would apply nationwide :open_mouth:

There used to be countless inconsistencies between centres and examiners within centres. But, credit due, the DSA have worked hard to try and eradicate the variables. But odd ones still remain.

Sam Millar:

I’ve had problems lining up the trailer onto the hatch marking in the box also. Managed to get it bang on on test though. Must have been sheer luck lol.

Lining up isn’t my problem it’s knowing when to stop. I can get it over and in the box fine but all the reference points i’ve been told to use of when to stop don’t work for me :frowning: Never had a problem with the rigid reverse using the mud guards though. :frowning:

I should have worded that differently, sorry. I had trouble getting the ref point right too. Theres a white line of paint on the mudguard and I had been using the whole line as its quite broad but only needed to use the top of the line. Paul spent some time before my test yesterday going through this again with me, just going back and forward till I got it right.

We’ve both found a much better point now which is the tree that Kilty mentioned earlier in this thread ~ that’s worked wonders so thanks mate.

Day 3:

Wow, absolutely exhausted and don’t think I can take much more really so glad there’s only one more day left before the test. Think I’ve pretty much sorted out when to stop on the reverse now, again now problems getting it over and in the box and the same with coupling and uncoupling, no problems there.

Driving isn’t bad either, nothing major to pick up on really just iron out some small minor issues. Feel like the instructor is getting a bit inconsistent, yesterday he told my fellow student you didn’t need an indicator for a ‘dedicated lane’ but today after leaving the dual carriageway, there’s two lanes, one going left and one going right at the bottom of the junction, so again my fellow student never indicated (which I too would’ve done) and he got pulled up on it. When I asked why the instructor said that it wasn’t really a dedicated lane, (even though you can only go one direction while using it).

Just want Friday to be here now, bit apprehensive as my test would of course be the early one :unamused: 10am I believe to lots of flashing 20’s to put up with. Brilliant :unamused:

Nothing massively went wrong today just feel like I’m getting rather stressed and exhausted now and wish it was over with a pass cert.

Not long now fella keep at it

you didn’t need an indicator for a ‘dedicated lane’

True enough. But consider what signals are for - - to give information. It can rarely be wrong to re-iterate by applying the signal as long as it’s not confusing. Any risk of confusion and the signal should be left well alone.

It’s no more complicated than that.

Best of luck tomorrow, Pete

Flashed you on 71 about 3.30 must have been you heading back to yard.

Best of luck for tomorrow pal

Seen you mate but he had a flakey earlier when I waved to one of the fellas I knew so wasn’t for doing it again LOL.

Day 4:

Had two cracking drives this morning, all went very well on them. Ran through the reverse an uncouple again, no problems there.

Think it will be a bit of hit and miss tomorrow, will either have a clean sheet or a fail I think but can only think positive and keep the head up. I mean, I think I can easily do the test and everything else without committing a ‘serious’ fault that would endanger myself or anybody else, but some of the things he is saying would fail my test I’m struggling to believe so think he’s possibly putting the ■■■■■ in us.

Test at 10 with Bob ‘Blindspot Mirrors’ McLean. :unamused:

Good luck for tomorrow mate! Just stay calm and remember what you’ve been taught and you should be fine.

Cheers

Jonny :sunglasses:

Good luck for tomorrow Sam, happy hunting !! :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Good luck sam hope all goes well for tomorrow.

Good luck for tomorrow Sam.

Good Luck Sam. Remember all those pointers that your trainer taught you. Keep in mind some of the advice given to yourself and others on here.

Give the examiner a good safe drive. Get the reverse and coupling exercise in the bag and that blue certificate will be yours for the taking

I can’t find the thread at the moment, but DVLA managed to omit category DE from Dean’s licence. He’s chasing it up with them.

Thanks, Dave - that’s the one. I remember writing this post setting out the law.

David

Class 1 CE in the bag!! Yeaaaahh man.

4 minors, two for a little too fast into junctions, 1 for a late signal while overtaking parked cars and 1 for forgetting my NSM while turning right. Instructor said if that’s all he could get me on then he must have been bored.
