Cat & Fiddle Speed Cameras

Apparently SPECS cameras will be installed on the Cat & Fiddle next week to cut down the death rate of motorcyclists.Given that ,as far as I know , SPECS cameras only read a vehicles front number plate and motorcycles are only required to display a rear number plate, the only speeders to be detected will be those on four wheels and not two.Hmmm.

not quite true if they fit 2 camara’s one facing each way they can get both bikes and cars, seeing it more and more on the motorway road work one :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp:

Does anyone know how offences caught by the SPECS cameras are dealt with?

If your average speed between one pair of cameras is over the limit I guess that’s one speeding offence.

If your average speed between several cameras is over the limit is each pair of cameras considered to be a separate offence?

Alternatively, if your average speed between the first and last camera in a set was below the limit could you claim this as your average speed?

Just made a phone call to find out -
If there are say 3 sets of SPECS joined in a row and any or all of them are violated (sounds rude that !!) then only ONE prosecution will be issued.

hope that helps

I’ve still not been able to find a definative answer to an old question:

Are they linked to the DVLA vehicle database and therefor capable of distinguishing between a car, panel van, bus and truck? All of which might have different limits over the same section of road.

Dunno but technically possible
