Hi all,
New member here, I passed my cat C a couple of months back and have my C+E on Thursday. I took my CPC mod 4 last month and failed, with 90% Got asked how I would secure a load of steel, I said chain…correct, now demonstrate on trolley…deer in headlights moment. Completely couldn’t visualize how to put chain over trolley. Stupidly I had assumed I would be able to do it on the day from watching a video on youtube showing how the chain and tensioner worked. My downfall was not having a clue how to actually place the chain over the trolley. Have my retest booked for next Wednesday and asked my training school if they have a trolley to show me what I should’ve done, but they dont, they only have a chain tensioner. Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I had exactly the same problem with my Mod 4. Lack of good tuition caused a first fail. Changed trainer and passed 100%.
As I remember you have to clip the chain on either side and drop it down into the trolley so there is no slack. Then tighten it across the with of the trolley with the tensioner. Make sure you are tightening it and not loosening it as I did in 1st attempt.
Hope this helps.
If your trainer does not have a trolley I suggest changing trainers! Its like trying to teach someone how to drive without a vehicle!
Yeah I’d like to go somewhere who has the equipment to show me what to do right, but as it is booked for next wed I may struggle. The annoying thing is I pretty much self taught myself the rest of it and drove myself to test centre in one of works rigid vehicles, got 20% in 4 out of the 5 sections and lost 10% on the securing load due to being stuck with the chain, causing the fail. This is the only thing I still cant figure out what to do, and I can’t justify paying x amount to get cpc training when I know I can pass every other area and every type of securing device except chain. I’m at a bit of a loss with what to do. Anyone got a simple diagram of how the chain is supposed to be laid across the trolley? Still cant visualise it even with dar1976s description, sorry. Feel a bit thick

Superb! Thank you so much, so either of these methods of securing on the trolley is accepted? If so it makes it much easier as the bottom pic looks really simple, and looks exactly as dar1976 described.
Yes as far as i know mate i am sure you will get it this time round.
