Cat C from start to finish

Evening all,

So, wanting to get my class C and as far as i can understand the proccess is as below:

  • Send forms d2/d2 off to the DVLA with medical to get the provisional Cat C
  • Study for theory test
  • take mod 1 test (theory/hazzard)
  • Take mod 2 CPC case study
  • book and take practical test (mod 3)
  • once passed mod 3 take mod 4 (post test cpc)
  • send mod 4 and test pass certificate to DVLA to get cat C entitlement.

So here’s my confusion, mods 2 and 4 are cpc tests, does that mean once i have my full Cat C i have a CPC and just have to take 35hrs training per 5 years.
Or is that just an initial sort of CPC and i then have to take 35hrs training before applying for jobs?

Really I’de like to know weather i can say “Yes i hold a CPC” once i’ve passed all 4 modules…

Any advice appreciated.

Many thanks, Rob

There are some small variations possible on what you say, ie 4 can be taken before 3 and 2 can be taken before 1 but basically you’re spot on. Normally the examiner will send your licence away for you after passing mod3 but there are times you may not want this. Ie if you still have CPC to do.

Once all 4 are passed you receive a CPC card valid for 5 years. You must complete 35hrs further CPC training before it expires.

A decent trainer will spend a while chatting on the phone to put you exactly on track for your personal circumstances. Every possibility would be a very very long post and some may not apply to you.

As John said, you’re correct. The only bit I’d add is to take care with your choice of trainer. The offerings out there vary enormously and cheapest is often not best.

Book at least two assessments (often free) once you’ve got your provisional before you part with any money. The only exception to this is booking on rock solid recommendation.

Avoid brokers.

Hope this helps,

Pete

LastTemplar:
send mod 4 and test pass certificate to DVLA to get cat C entitlement.

Mod 4 test pass does not get sent to DVLA - that is sorted electronically by DVSA

That’s brilliant thanks for the advice people it’s a huge help.

Now to be a further pain in the ar$e…i can take my mod 2 (CPC theory) straight after my mod 1 (theory and hazzard).
Does that mean the cost will be roughly the same for mod 2 as it is for mod 1?

Thanks again

Infact scratch the above!! found a website which lays it all out.

Big thanks for your help
