Cat C drivers, real kings of the roads

So I had this epiphany whilst I had some spare time today awaiting to unload at Trade Team’s depot in Hebburn, I was thinking about all the posts I’d read about C+E drivers sick of their lives spending hours upon hours in RDCs and such alike having to hand over the keys to the lorry they’re in charge of (that must be a kick in the balls) or tramping all week dreaming of the good old days in ‘real’ lorries, saddened by the fact its actually a job now and not a fun day/week away living the high life and its too late to get out of it now.

Become the master of your own destiny, become a God among drivers and put those in their place that have to put up with planners telling them what to do people that have never driven a van never mind a lorry, bridges that you swear were higher the last time you went under it (how many rigids do you see hitting bridges, come on we’re too good for that!)

Multi drop cat c drivers are the real men among boys :sunglasses:

You may have to take a pay cut.

Probably van drivers are gods, none of that driving around with your bed right behind you, just looking forward to a nice hot shower in your hotel room before having to make a choice from the menu. As for limiters and having to take a break whether you want one or not. As for bridges, when was the last time you saw a van hit a bridge…

Don’t forget they can ignore weight limits and width restrictions too, many years ago I did a few months of limping for Movianto or whatever they’re called and I used to drive anything from a van to class 1 but the agency paid the same rate regardless and boy did I enjoy having a run with a van, it was 20 + drops but very easy and relaxed and I could follow my sat nav without a worry .

I have a full cat a on my license. Maybe by your logic, I should become a motorcycle courier and become undisputed lord of the universe? I admit, it would have been nice work to have had during the heatwave!

Come to the dark side, bald bloke. Some of my lads do as many three drops a day, I know, excessive; but we balance it with a few one a week deliveries that they have to handball off. Can be as much as 6 kgs.

Never done any distance on a bike in hot weather then…

I’ve driven vans and trucks but one the thing I regret not having a go at is a motorbike courier, back in the day you could earn a few quid. But nice work in a heatwave! riding through the cities in full bike gear with all that heat coming of the engine, not so nice, a long out of town run, now that would be cool.

Nah come over here BB :smiling_imp: , one single delivery or two drops max, connect pipes, stand lean/sit on wall drinking tea whilst the load tips itself, never pushed, almost never contacted by the office.
No security bods who think they’re protecting Fort Knox, no handing your keys in, no stinking holding cells, no awkward forkies or shunters desperate for someone to take their misery out on.
Oh and when tapping the tank goes from a thud to bong, you’re only going one place, home
Jobs a good un :sunglasses:

Wouldn’t be seen dead in one.

I knew someone would coe up with one. Feel it’s only fair you find a rigid hitting a bridge for ghiabox :grimacing:

I can smell the jealousy from you c+e drivers, OK so I do have to put some graft in beer doesn’t deliver its self but I get the satisfaction that I’ve actually earned my pay and not sat around twiddling my thumbs crying on the inside.

jbaz, no one wants to be a power ranger they’re between failed car drivers and posh cyclists.

Anyway Edinburgh tomorrow early morning, keep an eye out for me should really have taken a pic of the back as its all you artics see when I’m at the helm (except that Scania I keep seeing on the M6, overtook me uphill about 10mph faster than me and I was on the limiter :open_mouth: )

p.s this is a satire post don’t take me too seriously

Ha, drove fuel tankers back in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s. Great job but as with most not as good as it was back then. Far better than tranporters though Juddian and better paid or again it was back then. Drivers were better as well. It seems good drivers are far harder to find these days.

Is that because you get run to the bone?
Don’t get jealous because us class 1 drivers can sit with our feet up and have a leisurely pace without bombing around like our arse is on fire!

This is no epiphany, doing multi drop in London on 30ft rigid, having to do shunts just to turn left and right seeing the class 1 articcas just whoosing through nearly decapitating pedestrians at junctions, it makes me proud to be a member of the human race, there’s only one king of the road and its called class 2 for a reason.

Respect to all though its not easy sometimes but Class 1 is Class 1

Say no more…

Yeah wouldn’t wanna go into London tbh and the artic drivers will just blame the pedestrians for being there much like they do cyclists when they knock them off

Nice throne! Would you wanna give that up for a bender?

Didn’t think so :sunglasses:
