casual agency work

Sooo might finally have myself two days work next week. (first lot as I’m only available weekends and occasional days!)
I have the aldi bag and limp ect, but seriously what should I tak with me?
Got hi Viz, boots tacho roll and old style discs ( in case), got some gloves, wipes.
Should only be day work, do you recommend anything else? Apart from patience?
Intend to go early to give myself sometime to familiarise and get used to digi tachos!!
Cheers

Check youtube for digi tachograph guide.

But seriously, you should first worry about the truck having everything on it!
What you carry for your own needs come second to ensuring you have enough ratchet straps/restraints etc that can leave you in a compromised position…

You will bulid up your limpers kit over time mate, and I carry lots of crud that i don’t use every day.
however I do find these items often handy:-

  • Torch
  • Knife/Multitool
  • Small can of lube or WD40
  • Cable ties
  • Length of cord
  • Window cleaner & cloth
  • Wetwipes

Hope that helps and best of luck!

Cheers Evil, that sounds right! I do have some straps but they are only thin van ones!! May pick up a spare thicker one…
2live Will check the youtube videos too for the tacho. Last time I did tachos they were only the manual kind

NO NO NO!!!

You do not buy ratchet straps!!! :imp:

That’s the company’s expense and we don’t want firms thinking that if they don’t provide, we will step up and do it!
It’s bad enough that we are expected to provide our own Sat-Nav’s…
It’s the same with Tacho rolls mate, you should ask the firm for one when you get there, and do so on a regular basis until you have a few spares. I carry a spare headlight bulb with me that another driver gave me, but I’m buggered if I’d go buy one if the firm expected us to change them! :imp:

I did wonder! I assumed they should provide tacho stuff and straps, but seeing as it’s my first didn’t want to assume. Cheers for the advice will let you know how and if it goes! Cheers

Basic PPE is also the employers responsibility, but as a limper I think it gives the wrong impression if you start your assignment by asking for basic kit. I carry a few sets of different glove types to suit the work, and then the time is right, I restock this supply from where I can!

You still limping then, or have you got a regular ride now?

I’m a limper still, but on the look out for something that suits me. Jobs are a 2 thing and unless I like the work, hours, vicinity, and wages, i’m not interested. But the problem with limping all the time, it’s hard to look for better things and you can get in a rut if you let yourself. You can end up limping somewhere too long where you know you wouldn’t stay for one reason or another, so you have to limp about and see what else exists, and so far I’ve not limped anywhere I’d want to stay!

i don’t take wd40 or extra tools.

however i do have a tacho roll, work gloves and driving gloves (yes, you’d better drive in gloves some units :open_mouth: ), a pen, hand sanitiser, a toilet roll just in case, lots of napkins, a tape measure, truckers atlas

Cheers for the gloves tip priest, got hand sanitiser as spend a lot of days dealing with bathroom stuff! Cheers

Have you got a long sleave hivis and maybe hivis trousers and even hard hat and glasses. Before any1 says the company should provide your right would you wear a bone dome some sweaty arse has had on.

Some sites this is now mandatory ppe

Nothing came :frowning: hey ho will ‘pop my cherry’ soon, hopefully!!
