ya that’s the one mate I was at leeds brs yard

From what i can remember when Castrol (Onward Transport) closed the Birtley depot in 1992. The Yorkshire/North East deliveries where put over to drawbars. They ran from BRS depot in Decon Ind Est, Newton le Willows to BRS Leeds then to BRS Gateshead. The vehicles used where short wheelbsae Leyland 50 series carrying small 15ft demountable curtainside bodies, the trls carried 2 of these.
The operation used to work round the clock Monday to Friday trunking two boxes to BRS Leeds then to Brs Gateshead with the wagon. Deliveries where then made with two vehicles from Leeds and one from Gateshead the next day.
This must have been the start of the project as Tankfreight build a purpose built warehouse in Warrington as a distribution centre for Castrol, in the mid 90’s.Castrol had used demountable bodies before, through there contract hauliers before, one i can remember was Hasons, Leeds Road, Huddersfield who ran the Yorkshire operation to the late 80’s to early 90’s, when the depot was closed, with BRS taking there area for Yorkshire, run from Newton le Willows. Me and Kevmac 47 got made redundant when this was put into operation.
