Castle Cary,Ansford Bridge closure

ATTENTION all truckers,Network Rail have applied for a traffic order to shut the road for repairs,it will be a 17 to 20 mile diversion, and there is a low bridge on the diversion for the car transporters and hay boys.
Cars will be using the local lanes as rat runs, the road is shut from September 10th untill CHRISTMAS time.
There are many factories in the area,Crown Pet Foods,Centaur pet services,as well as the milk tank farm collections, pubs and shops will loose revenue.
Allow extra time if you will be down that way soon.

Is some TN user can place up a map and HGV diversion for us to see,i am not that bright to do it.
It seems you can go south after Shepton Mallet, but not north, maybe the access to the industrial estate is going to be ok,going southbound.

Hi All

Network Rail has agreed to delay essential repairs to Ansford Bridge near Castle Cary Railway Station in Somerset until the New Year.

Following a meeting at Ansford, the company has decided to implement the 19-week programme from Monday, 7 January 2013 to Sunday, 19 May 2013.

The A371 at Ansford Bridge should fully re-open to traffic on Monday, 20 May 2013. Network Rail will need to agree the new road closure dates with Somerset County Council.

Network Rail has postponed these essential repairs in recognition of the strength of feeling expressed at the meeting and the impact the works will have on local businesses and the community. This four-month delay will now give them sufficient time to draw up their contingency plans.

Network Rail is planning to set up a generic mailbox to capture concerns from the local community. The address for this will be publicised as soon as possible.

Here’s the proposed diversion routes:

Diversionary Route:

From the western end of the closure proceed in a south westerly direction along the B3153 to the junction with the A37. Turn right and proceed in a north easterly direction along the A37 to the junction with the A371. Turn right and proceed in a southerly direction along the A371 to the eastern end of the closure, and vice versa.

Advisory route for vehicles over 4.5Mts (14’ 9’’) will be signed via A371, A359, A303, A372, B3151 and B3153.

There will be an alternative diversion route signposted to Castle Cary Railway Station from the A371 South.

John, thanks for the info, keep us informed later on,cheers.

Network Rail Update - we are proposing to carry out the works between Monday, 7 January 2013 and Friday, 31 May 2013. A full road closure will be in place for the first 19 weeks of this period.

And they reckon no-one reads these forums

Cheers John

I cannot do without my Wyke Farms cheese

I heard that Peter Green haulage was not too pleased with the closure.

Hi All

Another update on the Ansford Bridge repair work and road closure - it’s now being scheduled from 8th July 2013 to 1st December 2013.

The road will be completely closed for 19 weeks from 8th July 2013 to 17th November 2013. After the 17th November, a single file traffic management system with traffic lights will be installed up to 1st December. Diversion routes will operate.

Hope this helps you to plan your journeys.

This repair work must be “essential” then.

Stan

What kind of work is needed to be carried out to last 4 months?
