Cars swerving to avoid small animals

I’d never go to actively run something over, but as a night driver you get to see and hit quite a variety of animals. Early hours of daylight, then pigeons are favourite, they’re getting their grit for the day and nothing else matters. Foxes, badgers, rabbits, and them plug ugly muntjac deer all seem to find themselves re-classified as road kill.
When I drove wreckers, there was a phase of people getting their cars disabled after hitting pheasants, they’ll take a radiator out no problem. One day I had to recover a car that had hit a deer, the girl was sobbing her heart out, I said never mind, you can get another on the insurance? no, she was worried about ‘poor-bambi’ I said to her wait and see what your insurance will cost if you haven’t got protected no-claims.
The one live badger I’ve seen in recent years only left me wondering why there aren’t more squashed than there are already. They wander into the road, think better of it and change their mind, then change it again…

A pheasant broke my dad’s car, beak through the radiator. An old woman killed a young driver when she drove on the wrong side of the road to avoid a rabbit.
