Cars allowed to use HGV spaces at Watford Gap services

Nothing new though is it. As a truck driver in the UK you’re treated like something on the bottom of your shoe. Bow down to every other road user on an over congested old road system that seems years behind some of our European counterparts and msa’s that are full of potholes and stink of p*** …oh yeah, and you have to pay if you’d like the pleasure of parking in one overnight. Absolute joke !!!

I’ve seen the police in France move caravans out of truck parking spaces too, couldn’t see that happening here though. Any problems as a hgv driver here and you’d be blamed and probably just end up getting nicked!

drivers are treated like that because that’s how drivers like to be treated. Why do msa’s stink because drivers make them stink. Why shouldn’t you pay to park they are a business there to make money just the same as the one you work for

This is pretty spot on. You moan about lack of facilities but when they are there provided you don’t want to pay for them you’d rather try and park in layby and pocket the cash etc.

What do you want to change, who is going to pay for it and who is going to police it ? If you want to be treated like animals act like animals.

When you see someone ■■■■■■■ all over the floor ask them to use the toilet or even better film the ■■■■■■ and post them on youtube or Tnetuk.

If you want to change things lobby the RHA and toa lesser extent the FTA if your not too tight to pay the membership if you are too tight put up and shut up.

They are the ones talking to the Govt & Dept of Transport bending policy makers and ministers ears. not whining on her

I think I can walk about 1 mile in 15 minutes without rushing so in your 10 minute walk that’s 3/4 mile don’t think many are that far away, looking at the size of some drivers it may do them some good to start walking.

Old Msa policy back in the dark ages dictated truck drivers had separate facilities I’m sure some American States had similar backward policies towards certain sections of the the community.

To integrate truckers with society msa’s had to get a departure from policy.

Newer policy removes the segregation would you prefer a scruffy shack full of ■■■■ & ■■■■ in the corner or would you prefer to mix with people in ‘decent’ facilities ?

As Mac says the exercise and integration may do some truckers a bit of good who think it’s acceptable behaviour to ■■■■ all over the place or throw it out of the window in a bottle, some poor ■■■■■■ has to clean the ■■■■ up for you.

You certainly put your faith into the RHA. The only thing I see them do is echo and agree with the government and other authorities. They have said that parking without lights in laybys and on the roadside is wrong, they should be lobbying for clean secure places to park up off road and not at £25 per night. They should be working for their members, not going off to jolly boys outings

If it’s raining it will wash the pee away. It’s the lazy sods who do it in summertime who are the ones to blame.

big boots:
take all the coach spaces up,now that would ■■■■ em off trust me

did you know the coach driver eats free and gets tokens for taking a coach load in,all the services try to outdo each other to get the coach drivers to come into theirs.

Yeah and I think Tebay coach station, sorry truckstop has won. Last night I nighted out there and had a job to sit down there were so many coach passengers in the bleedin place.

Pimpdaddy:
How many truck drivers actually spend money in the services whilst taking a 45…?

I always spend a penny… :grimacing:

It doesn’t necessarily follow that all car drivers or coach passengers spend though. Those that do are more likely to be management types who can offset the cost against expenses.

It used to be a common excuse that everything was more expensive in MSA’s because they were open 24/7. Well, so are Tesco’s, near as dammit; and they would be if the law allowed.

I suggest that more of us WOULD spend if the prices were a bit more reasonable. Two quid for a cup of tea is not expensive, it’s extortionate. There doesn’t seem to be any shortage of willing takers for the concessions though; Costa (lot), Starbucks, all the poncey fashionable chains are in there. Interesting that M&S and Waitrose, arguably the two priciest supermarket chains, are well represented, yet Tesco, Asda and Morrisons are not.

I’ve noticed a few Greggs’ outlets opening up, higher prices than their high street outlets but still undercutting the above concessions by a considerable margin; though their counters all bear a sign stating that goods bought there are not allowed to be consumed on the premises. So basically you’re paying the extra to park your arse.

Would you park your fifty grand Jag/Merc/BMW amongst a load of Hgv’s?
Ask the owner of the red Transit van who had his bonnet neatly folded back to the windscreen by a reversing trailer a few weeks ago in the same parking area.
The motion on the floor brothers and sisters, boycott Watford Gap services.

I only do two night trunks a week and seldom use the M1.
When I do I usually stop for a coffee on the way down, either Leicester if I’m going A14,or Toddy if I’m going all the way down.
However, but a few weeks ago I thought I’d try the Gap as it’s years since i’ve been there.
Could be s few more years till I go again, what a [zb] dump!
Every msa has a rough park, but I found this as rough as anywhere, called in the fuel kiosk for a coffee, couldn’t get one.
Went across to the main building which was like a [zb] graveyard and got a coffee eventually.
I well remember this place from years ago when there was a truck drivers only cafe,my how things have changed!

when it used to be called " the blue boar ". :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m so angry.

Thanks to Steve I have now drank a bottle of whiskey due to what I have just seen. I am sadden by the fact they let cars use a bit of parking. I am going to see how far my truck jumps when there in there.

ALERT: ■■■■ take!, not from the floor near to a wheel. From a bottle that was thrown

im not saying all services are perfect but watford gap is a ■■■■■■■ disgrace the tarmac in the parking area has more ■■■■-ing craters than the moon and as for letting cars use HGV spaces do what i do park on the double yellows or box em in if anyone says anything i say why is that parked here it doesnt have to i have to take a legal break and this was the best area i could find i tried to use a space but they have all been taken up by car drivers because the idiots that work here cant run the place

It’s no problem to me, I do Europe most of the time thankfully !!! Efficient road systems, clean modern service areas which have far more space, are free to use and you’re treated much better too…

Drivers are treated like dirt because that’s how they like to be treated ■■? …Really ■■? …What nonsense !!! …

Why is it nonsense?

This happened in Wetherby Services yesterday. I was in the car with the missus and we pulled into the services to find a sign saying use HGV parking. The place was packed and a tanker had parked on the side of the entrance because he could not get a space for mostly caravans. Another artic pulled in and he had no where to go, couldn’t back up, and got swamped in amongst a load of cars. I felt sorry for the drivers they looked really p1ssed off

PS must be a weekend thing
