Problem our way Dave is that several quarries (Ballidon included) are within the National Park and you haven’t a hope in hell of getting planning through when they are intent on closing them down because “Tourist’s don’t want to see them” while on holiday. Dan, Moose and Rigsby will remember all the myther over the quarries at Stanton and Birchover trying to expand, we had ‘the great unwashed’ living in trees on site, they even had their own postcode! They came into Matlock every Giro day in battered old cars with no tax etc, the Police were not interested as they had no money to pay fines and the villagers where the quarries were used to feed and clothe them.Pete.
I remember delivering clay pipes for a gas line they were fitting from Brecon all the way down into South Wales. The tree huggers set up camp in a tree just down the road from the site in Brecon. I delivered there one day and tooted the horn, they thought I was showing support even though I was delivering the clay pipes to the site, they gave me the thumbs up and a cheer so I pulled up put the window down and shouted," get a life you scruffy dole walling ■■■■■!" And told them they would make good tramps if they smarted themselves up a bit.
They were still there 8 week later when I went back there, ■■■■ wet through like drownded rats like they were on some sort of mercy mission for the whole of Wales I hope they ended up with hyperthermia, Weils desease, and Bad backs to look back on such a successful campaign
