Carrier or Thermoking

Which is better in your opinion and why?

Carrier, much quieter, much quicker to get down to temperature, although having said that I walked down the lanes at Calais yesterday and there was a Spanish truck with a fridge trailer on which was far quieter than any Carrier or Thermo-King.

I agree on carrier getting down to temp much quicker but the new thermo king are much quieter than the new carrier. And I also like the little temp display on the thermo king that you can see in the o/s mirror

Nearly all ours are carrier but had a thermoking hired trailer last week and it seemed quiter which contradicts what Harry just said, personally I’ll go with carrier though .

I prefer my six Thermo Kings, but as my newest trailer was made in 2000 they are all fairly loud.
Too many computer chips in the one Carrier to create spurious faults, but too many long belts to slip in the Thermo Kings.
Both brands have outrageous parts prices

At least the ThermoKings are attached to strong Montracon trailers and the Carrier to a Gray and Adams, otherwise, I reckon they would have fallen apart by now.

Nick.

I agree with that, if Carrier fridges have an Achille’s Heel it is that there are too many sensors likely to malfunction with no way of over-riding them even when you know that it is a sensor fault.

ive been living with the new thermoking spectrum for the past week, seems really quiet to me

Lucky you.
They make less noise on diesel than mine do on electric.

I imagine he is far more concerned about his red diesel bill than about the quality of your sleep…

i would like to think the latter but your prob right with the former lol

All fridges make the same amount of noise when you turn them off at night…

very true,no shades of grey with you harry

Are you sure you mean Carrier?! In my opinion they are noisy rattley heaps of crap. Terrible at holding temp, incredibly slow to start, takes an age to switch to electric on the ferry. ThermoKing is a far far superior fridge. If I never had another Carrier again it’d be too soon.

After doing two years on fridges in Canada/USA I can honestly say I hate carriers with a passion, though it has to be said that fridge trailers here are a completely different breed to those back home in the UK and Europe. Here they have very thin insulation and have to constantly work to maintain tempriture. The carriers we had were known as “Screaming monsters” despite being labled as “Stealth” and would struggle to maintain temp in the heat of summer, especially down south in the US. Thermokings on the other hand, the new “whisperer” ones were excellent, you could hardly hear them purring away and they maintained tempriture very well in comparison. The older thermoking units were just as crap as the carriers though.

I never turn mine off before bed but the number of times I’ve awoken and it’s off is shocking. Once I’m tucked up I don’t care what happens outside zZzzZzzZz

haha know that feeling, when the curtains are drawn, game over!

i;ve just this last week done a couple of reefer jobs and i’m not sure i could put up with that constant racket from behind my cab :open_mouth: blimey charlie its loud , although the reefers i was pulling are old so that could explain that . i’ve done a bit of it in the past but not much and i dont remember them being so loud . :open_mouth: I SAY ITS LOUD ! CAN YOU HEAR ME ? :grimacing:

been running with a spanking new thermoking for the last week, big stride forward, super quiet

Used to pull a Grey and Adams fridge with a Thermoking unit on it- had it from new and it would not pull the temperature down to -20 when on frozen despite numerous visits to the workshop - never got to the bottom of it but the experience put me off Thermoking units . Been pulling Schmitz / Gray &Adams fridges with Carrier units on them for the last couple of years never had a problem with them either . So in my opinion it’s what ever unit comes in at the best money for the owner of the trailer it’s on I can work with either so being I can switch it to continuous running at night - it blocks out the sound of traffic and lets me get to sleep .
