Carolinas mountain road,Bailen,Espanha

That must have been when Madrid only had 2 ring roads, one of them is the M3O,it was easy to get off an exit in error and end up in the city.Did some shop fitting jobs for “El corte ingles”,secured my bike to a bin,bin men came along with an allen key,and made off with a new bike.Never knew why all the drivers would drink all weekend at Freds old place, and not get a bus/tube/train to see the sights of Madrid.Theres that bar,in the big square, where all the presidents/VIPs and prime ministers would visit, photos on the wall, and head trophies of bulls heads hang from the walls.Had to count the change with Fred,as the price of a fax/shower/drink or meal would alter, depending on the customer.Did anyone use his place on the national 1,north of Madrid, high on a hill,on the right, going south.

Yep, fuel pump on my old MAN bust just outside on main N1 on my way South and managed to limp into Freds! Bloody horrible it was to lol :sunglasses:

I agree there is so much that they all missed a shame really

Got a full body and foot massage,on the side of the pavement,in Madrid,by illegal Chinese immigrants, they run away, when they see the coppers coming, like the street traders that lay their wares on the pavement on a blanket, and within seconds, pull some strings, and do a runner.

From memory i think the most dangerous part of that road is way before it (going south) the flats south of Madrid

Straight, flat, hot and boring as hell!

I nearly fell asleep there a few times out of pure bordom!

That would be the A4 Carretera de Andalucia, a pleasant 38 celsius the other day - and no aircon either. Mind you I dont mind if Im heading south as its the way home.

What’s that big factory set a couple of hundred yards away to the right of the road (when heading south) that chucks out clouds of the most whiffy smoke/fumes?? always seems considerably worse at night, now that’s got to be illegal!!

Ross.

You mean the one on the right after you have tuned towards Granada just before Jaen ? I think you will find it is Smurfitts if I remeber correctly

And those olive press factories keep me awake on the “flats” national V.Smells a lot.

just come back from another trip through despenaperros and thought i’d post some pictures to show how the works are coming along.
please don’t post about taking photos whilst driving i know i was bit naughty but i don’t need senior driver like continental express :open_mouth:

Soon all the roads will be so easy that anyone will be able to do this job!!

Ross.

That’s why they computerized & standardized the trucks ,it took the decisions away from the driver & made the job as easy as driving a tram therefor not requiring expensive skilled labour & that gets the ‘drivers’ rates down .

Welsh boy
Great photos, I always wonder how that bar and melon seller has survied on the first corner north bound, I do that road twice a year in the car as we have a small house in Sedella, above Torre Del Mar

if you come up when all the madrilenos are going back after visiting the coast for the weekend or holidays that cafe is packed with cars and gets quite dangerous because if they can’t get in their arseend sticks out into the road until you give them a blast on the air horns

Im not sure, but I from the smell I think its probably a pomace oil factory. Pomace oil is the lowest possible food grade of olive oil and is made from the residue of the cold and then hot pressings of olives using the remaining skins, pits and flesh of the olives. To extract the oil both solvents and heat are used, hence the smell!

Pomace oil is suitable for use in deep frying and is also used in the production of various processed foods as well as the production of cosmetics.

There is another grade of Pomace called Lampante, which used to be used as lamp oil and now has several industrial uses.

I think some of those dodgy girls off the Bus in Bailen Truck Stop are more dangerous!

don’t go near them then

Isn’t the smelly bit around Puertollano ?. I always thought they must get oil or gas from there, certainly seems to be a good number of tanks running from around there.

That will be from the Repsol plant

This is the remains of a fridge trailer at the bottom of the pass on the Madrid bound carriageway its been there at least since the first gulf war I can’t remember if it 1990 or 1991 but I suppose its left there to tell other drivers you too could end up here. It don’t seem to have an effect on some Spanish drivers who seem to have their cruise control stuck on.
