When on Carlsberg, we used to pump Hof on to Princess of Scandinavia and sister ship. Also old vehicles used to drive when on the firm. and photo’s of Sally- Viking.
Niced photos Norm, I presume that’s the Viking 6 which was later renamed the Sally Sun?
When we came back on this boat, it was a force 11 gale, we was 4hours late getting in, I was a sleep in my cabin, never felt a thing ha ha ha, I could have gone to a watery grave, and still kept on sleeping.
That ship eventually became ‘The Corbiere’ and ran from Poole to Jersey for British Channel Island ferries, Then Truckline ferries.
A whole load of us from Fed Ex and some Swifts (joint trip) went to Jersey for a week’s ■■■■ up the out bound trip was on that ship, it was the calmest sea I ever rode on, a mill pool, not a ripple for 14 hours, the return trip was a different story … On the Rozel in a force 9 gale … Hop Scotch threw up all the way home
Yes some of those trip on ferries was terrible, I was never sick myself, but other people being sick made me feel as though I wanted to be sick.
norm, if i put a picture of a squashed up empty tin of carlsberg lager onto your thread would you hunt me down and shooot me? burp burp…hic hic
Jimmy we had two tankers done up as cans. Special brew was in gold, and Hof was in blue, even the units was painted in the same colours, they would go to carnivals all over the country in the parades.
9erf wincanton morley running out of carlsberg-tetley leeds alan
Yes we had a few of the Carlsberg lager in green, we used to call it river nene water, for us it was the worst time when we went in with Allied Breweries, they was always losing money, we was always in profit, the first year together, we made 20’000000 profit but with them we made a 11,000000 loss, then they finished our firm contract, and installed Wincanton, and has I informed them, I told them they would not have their contract renewed after 4 years, but the damage they done to a good squad of drivers was great, once we had 85, when I took voluntary redundancy in sept 1999 with a lot of other drivers, only five stayed and three was shunting in the brewery, two went on shuttle, they was paid for their contract and given a new one. B.O.C. ran the Swan Valley wharehouse, and was given the contract when Wincanton lost it. Our firm held it for 25 years, now I see in our local paper, Leeds brewery is closing down, and extra storage tanks are being installed, and output increased in Northampton. ( Nothing is forever)
is this why bulwark lost the contract
looks like Watford gap to me

I can never understand why wincanton get any distribution contracts . They treat drivers like crap + have a huge staff turnover of both drivers & warehouse ,pay a pittance & expect you to work weekends in your “rolling” week , thats why most of there staff are through agencies .
When will these “big” companies ever learn that if you pay peanuts you get monkeys
You are quite correct on you comments of W?C, that is what they were, flushed with success, pardon the pun, we lost the contract because Carlsberg allowed Allied to control, they was so good at losing money, they thought they could cut us down and make up some money to save face, I left comments on the notice boards to my members like " There is something rotten in the state of Denmark", and saying the reason, why was so many drivers leaving now, when you had to wait for a job on the firm, and hope someone would die or leave the country. We had a 99.8 delivery ratio, I was pulled up and told I would be sacked, for some of the bigwigs from Denmark could read my notices, I said that is a union notice board, which I put up information which is true for my brothers to read, if anyone else read them, and found it to be true, it may be the end of your reign, so please take action against me, and I will see you in court, they never did. At least I had the satisfaction they only lasted till the end of 2001, Carlsberg took back control, kicked W/C into the hole they crawled out of, gave the Contract to BOC and told them to go back to the old contract and keep regular drivers and not agency. that is all I know, because I have lost contact Tony.

Norm- bet these 2 aren’t asleep in there lorries
Tony your eyesight is failing you, there are three , and you might be right, then again you could be wrong, for I for one have slept in my cab there, it depended if I was loaded, or how late I got there. That looks like the time we was changing from DAF’s to Volvo’s, that is one of ours in the background, but not me! for no name in the window “Curlytop”.

Cutting from BET World when United Transport had Carlsbergs contract.
Also part of United Transport (BET) IFF had a spell taking grain into Northampton.
A couple of them I know their face, on the grain, someone came up with the idea of a trailer which could carry grain when convert from a curtainside barrel & pallet loads, it only lasted for a few years, boy was I glad, it was a dusty job converting it.

Hello Norman,
I took a pic of a curtainsider on the ramp tipping grain at N’hampton while I was waiting to tip, as always when I want to find something…if only I knew which would be the last box to look in I could go there first
Nick
Once I got pulled up by the ministry on the A74, after picking grain up from near to Edingburgh, and was told it was over alittle on one of my back axles, I said it was not when I load, it must have shifted, so I proved it to the man, by reversing up this long layby, then going forward and braking hard, he re-weigh me, and it was perfect.
