I don’t know but I HATE it when people suggest it.
“You can just put this box in your cab drive”
No no no mate, it goes on the trailer with the rest of the goods and if there is no room it doesn’t go!!!
It certainly is not illegal (although it may contravene company policies). As long as it is secure and being carried in a safe manner, I don’t see an issue with it.

Thanks.
I was asked to put 20 boxes of off meat in leaking boxes once. They didn’t like my answer. Incredible that people would even ask such a thing
I worked for a subby for Morrisons and they have a big envelope and a plastic box like a really useful box. They tried to pass it to me throught the cab window as I booked out at the gatehouse. I told them to put it in the back with the rest of the stuff and they got all arsey. In the end I threw it on the bunk. And then forgot it to leave it t the store!
I think it depends on the boxes, a long time ago i picked up a load, and 5 boxes wouldnt fit, so phoned the boss and he asked nicely if i would put them in the cab, they did take up all of the bed, plus the passenger well and seat, they were clean so it wasnt a problem, but of course if they obscure your vision, the police may take action, personally, that space is my home, and i take offence if i am asked to carry cargo in the cab, so now days in tend to say no, thats what the trailer is for caerrying goods
, the cabin is mine.

“Don’t worry. It’s no trouble. You can pop it in your car and follow me.”
I put a Ming Vase on the passenger seat in a Transit Van once, thought or might be safer with a seat belt on as it was worth £200,000. Lol !
Anything that comes in the cab with me I’ve always considered to be a tip.
The other problem with goods in cab no matter how small they are is that when you forget to give them to the customer you still got to deliver them
I had a mate who was havimg a big party onetime and he came back from Calais with a pallet of beer from Eastenders in his Magnum cab. Great party !!! lol.
I once brought back 17 boxes of wine from France on my Triumph Thunderbird bike. They were of mixed 3/5/10 litres. It felt like a tanker…not a murmur from the customs.

when I was backpacking in Australia, I worked as a van driver in Sydney along with a German guy. We used to run from a warehouse on the north shore, over the bridge and into the city to deliver to our shops. We then used to pick up any returns and empty boxes, and go back to the recycling plant near the warehouse. One day the German guy picked up a $1000 crystal vase from the city store to take back to the warehouse for a home delivery. When he got to the dump, he put the vase on the van roof so he could empty all the carboard and recyclables into the skip. He the proceeded to drive off with the vase on the roof - it fell off and shattered into a million pieces. He got into a bit of bother about that!
