70 mph how about the vehicles overtakeing this will be on thier tachos
which could cause problems on later inspections[/quote]

advisory of vehicle overspeed … that is all …
however if the police catch you in the act then they can do you , but they cant do you by looking at a tacho …
and slowing down 44t on a 5% slope is a tad hard to do even with exhauster and braking ( without cooking the brakes ) …
which is why it is an advisory and not an infringement

that is all

Promise you wont laugh…really…ok then…there i was in my kitchen yesterday…enjoying a coffee and reading my favourite paper…when i hear this almighty bang…so goes into the other room…and looks out of the window…and saw a brand new mercedes had driven into the rear end of my motorhome…so of course i went outside…this old dear must have been over 70 years old…made a right mess of the back of the van…even though i have a anti=bang rear bumper…dont make me laugh…antway…shes ripped her wing off…and done the passenger door as well…and lucky old me even had the police in attendance as they were opposite dealing with an idiot who had parked across someones driveway stopping them from getting out…so they pointed out to the ol gal that she had hit a stationary vehicle and it was her fault…my husbands gonna kill me she said in reply…so because im off to america tomorrow..ive got to leave it to my wife to have the motorhome taken to the garage on tuesday for estimate and possible repair…but its gonna cost a lot…plus a hire car…and maybe even loss of earnings…plus the damage to her own vehicle…should teach her to look where shes going…and know the width of the road…oh well…gotta get packing …

anti caravan proffesional drivers why the attitude
blast them off the road how willl you feel when you have killed some one some ones child you will have to live whith that
yes i have a caravan and i tow it whith a large 4x4 40ft legnth that has more bhp than some of the trucks on the road i use it for work and pleasure some times living in it for 6 weeks at a time
recenctley returning home from a job up in newcastle along the a1 i set the cruise control at 60 mph
and my landcruiser will keep that speed up and down hill all day long
but so called proffesional drivers over run the limiter down hill and then get stuck along side me on the next incline the main offenders of this seem to be
wendy house dafs 85
one scottish lorry must have been in scotch mans over drive fully freighted scania artic 70mph + trailer flexing
the other thing that ifound that if you let a truck join the main carrigeway they seem to find it fun to sit along side you
in the end iwas doing 70 mph and found it less stressfull
no i do not have ahgv but 7.5 ton experience 1979 to 1992 european work
last 3 years weekley runs to valencia spain and ican rope and sheet
so just think about it it may well be one of youre own

Sorry Fred, no disrespect to you, but you haven’t got a clue. :frowning:

When you’ve driven a fully loaded artic with 20-27 tonne on the back you’ll understand what our gripes are with caravanners.

It may be worth checking your users manual for your Landcruiser too as I think you may be in for a shock when you discover that your bhp is about half that of an ‘average’ truck (400).

Spardo has the idea right and (Spardo) I salute you Sir!

So I’d better keep me head down then. I have to deliver the things brand new to the dealers. At least they are all carried, no problems with horse power, 380 CF, wagon and drag, when loaded I gross out at 19ton, plated for 32ton. So in the seriously overpowered catorgery. Must admit its funny seeing the customers faces when you turn up at a dealer with three big “sheds” on, they must think they are all delivered individually. Outfit runs at 63ft long, and normally I’m running a 10ft overhang, 73ft total length.
Got to say it though, I hate the things with a vengegance

There are some drivers that do this sort of thing, but dont feel victimised cos’ they will do the same thing to other wagon’s as well. I know a few wagon drivers that drag a wobble box about for their holidays, personaly i’d rather not, but each to their own. Living in an area of the country that gets infested with these things from now on, you do get cheesed of when you’ve been out all week, and your constantly being held up by wobble boxes, although most serious caravaners do seem to get themselves well set up, and as with everything its those who only drag it out once a year which gives more regular users the bad image, minority spoiling it for the majority, now that sounds familiar. Just a thought Fred, but if you had to pay tax on and have your van MOT’d, maybe the less commited, who are probably the people that give you bad name would think twice about this type off holiday, or at least rent a van on site.

Well its like this, the computer was playing silyl[zb]s, then completely crashed, so i wasnt sure what had actually ended up being posted

Kerb weight of a Landcruiser is about 2,500 kG.

Fred - if your caravan weighs in at more than a ton, and you use it for work, then you need a tacho (he he)!

I don’t have a problem with the big 4x4’s towing caravans. It’s the family saloons loaded up with kids and cases (plus tow bar load) that need to be escorted to the weigh bridge.

If the whole lot comes in at a length of 40 feet it must weigh over 3500Kg all in so you’re right, I hope he has fitted his Landcruiser with a tacho.

Paul

The biggest problem with the gyppos is why they feel they don’t need extended mirrors?? Ok a lot do have them fitted but just take a look at how many of them think, “Oh sod that, I can see perfectly without them!”

If an artic driver went out without mirrors, imagine the consequences… Why do these parasites get away with it…

Everytime I see a caravan being towed by a vehicle without extended mirrors they get a blast on my horn (mega loud) which puts the fear of god up 'em, I suggest you all do the same…

This is one of my pet hates…

I doubt it mate. I have a tacho in mine - cost a small fortune! I deliberately pulled into a VOSA layby check last week (over 3.5T operating commercially with a new/unregistred car on a 6.5m trailer - so I thought I should). I stopped and asked them if they wanted to check my tacho’s - none of the burgers new the rules!

PS - before anyone starts, I’ve also got a proper wagon & drag that needs C+E or C+G (G=grandfather rights!!)

To be fair, most caravanners are no bother - its the ones with the 4x4 on the front that are the [zb]! Because they’ve got four-wheel drive they think they’re safe to drive at over 60mph.

Its also the muppets pulling boats and gliders. Have you seen the length of those gliders? Car (plus glider trailer) is almost the length of an artic - at 70-80mph in the outside lane! Seen an Audi Estate pulling a 15+ foot dinghy on a trailer with another 15+ foot dinghy on the roof-rack, how is that legal?

Last year, I posted a thread titled “I thought I’d seen it all…!”. Car and caravan overtaking me on the M40, wife and kids having their dinner in the caravan! It beggars belief!!!
