Car transporter to Sweden for charity fundraiser

New to the Forum and after some advice from professionals.

I am in the process of costing a charity fundraising driving challenge. In essence it would see a group of 10 cars all bought for under £1K and driven to Nordkapp which is at the top of Norway. To reduce the overall duration of the event I want to look at transporting 10 cars on an open transporter from Immingham to Gothenburg and then collecting the cars 7 days later from Rovaniemi in Finland and bringing them back to the UK.

I have approached seven transporter companies so far but not found anyone able to or willing to do the trip. Some enclosed transporter companies have quoted but as they need two vehicles to carry 10 cars it makes it too expensive.

Ideally I’d like to find an owner driver with the necessary international permits or a business either in the UK or in Sweden who want to cost it for me.

Can anyone help or make a useful suggestion as to who I might speak to?

Many thanks in advance.

I’m sure they’d be willing to help.

If it’s a Charity thing you could ask the ferry co’s if they will do you a special deal for shipping the cars to Göterburg. As for picking the cars up in Rovaniemi,if they cost less than 1k why should you bother to ship them home from there. Why not sell them in Finland or Sweden,if neccessary for scrap price. It’s got to be cheaper than the expense of bringing them back to the UK.Mike

I have a quote from DFDS for the shipping and may be able to do a deal somewhere down the line.

Selling right hand drive cars in a LhD country isn’t straight forward and scrapping them is a logistical ball ache but also scrap value might be £150 which is a deficit of up to £850 a car x10 is potentially a £8500 “loss” and not really in the spirit of what I’m trying to achieve.

Selling RHD cars isn’t such a problem as they are re-exported to Russia or Africa. And if you take into account the cost of bringing them back to the UK[people don’t do things for free any more] then you may not lose much by selling them to some ‘‘Wheeler dealer’’ here for re-export.

Thanks for this. I can’t open it on my iPad but will try on my laptop

Depending on height restrictions over the water, and i haven’t got the foggiest idea there, you’ll probably be realistically looking at 9 normal sized cars only, 10 cars unless you have at least 3 small or low cars (MX5 type of thing) involved, is going to put the height well up, approx 15’…so one may need to be driven once over.

Stobart Automotive would be my first port of call.

Much depends on which charity IMO.

Worth a look at! Cheers.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll take a look.

Not sure what sort of cars your looking at but if you had diesel cars they are easy to sell as 80 percent of cars here in the North are diesel.AND,if you were to approach an international logistics co who have depots in Scandinavia, for a bit of advertising\sponsoring you could get a deal for fuel as many companies can write off fuel for various things

try GEFCO (UK) Ltd in Corby.
