Makes sense! Thank you. Every day is a school day

or wheel bearing failure or flat tyre

The question is…will he or won’t he get his u damaged load bonus as it may not be his fault…?

I passed a car transporter on the M62 on Monday night. He had pulled over onto the hard shoulder on the bank at saddleworth moor and there was a lot of smoke coming from his trailer wheels. I thought it was going to go up in flames :open_mouth:

Wouldn’t the driver notice something like the back axle dragging to create the kind of friction heat needed to set fire to the rear car here?

Had to call the merc dealership today just to confirm my car wasn’t was there!

Its surprising but they don’t have to drag very much to notice at all for them to generate enough heat that melts the hub seal and ignites the grease in the hub which turns to fluid, it then spreads to the tyre.

I had a wheel bearing go on my trailer a few months ago. The only reason i knew about it was because i was flashed over, and once i stopped i saw the smoke coming of the wheel. It was raining in my defence, so i didn’t see the smoke. I didn’t feel any difference in the trailer.

Here’s the timescale of how the incident progressed: highways.gov.uk/traffic-info … mber-2015/

I called into our tyre place Friday to have my monthly tyre check and one of the inner drive tyres was flat (5psi) and due to that it was red hot and according to the tyre chap it was ready to blow.(unsure how 5psi will blow)
And yes I did check it in the morning as I have had a couple of issues with it deflating and had a valve replaced last week.
