This trailer was built Brockhouse I would guess mid to late 50s, Smarts the MG dealer in Newcastle used to run one behind a BMC tractor it was driven by Norman Oliver from Birtley, I remember the top deck was very steep to drive onto compared to the Carrimore from the same era. They replaced it in the early 60s with a Carrimore.

If you look at the MCD pictures you will see the similarity, the MCD’s are Hoynor 9/10 car artics that have been streched, the picture I posted is a later Hoynor 10 car artic that has been cut in half and turned into a drag, I’d had been planning a similar conversion myself (although keeping three decks) until I was told the labour cost would stop it being worthwhile but I guess in Lithuainian the labour cost is a bit different.

Hi Transporterman…Regarding the Tasker Burtonwood Trailer, could you get 3 cars on the top deck if the one over the peak was reversed on?
Also, was it normal practice to leave the doors open on the top deck vehicles?

Seen an old Fracks 4 wheeler car transporter in a yard in Huddersfield today , i didnt know they had any or it could have been a replacement cab

Hi auld_man_bob long time no hear!! that particular load was the first load on the transporter when it was new, it was a trial load and did’t actualy move you could get 3 cars on the top. In them days the overal length was onlt about 35’ if you remember the flat trailers were maximum 28’.

VTY 900 was transporter no 2 for Glendinnings, BMC Morris 18 ton unit and a Carrimore Mk 2 trailer. The Carrimore was far more superior to the Tasker in the loading and on road handling departments. For loading the top deck dropped and moved back the only problem with this was if a car was reversed onto the front of the top deck and if the rear of the car was near the cab you could not lift the deck, to overcome this the vehicle had to be jack knifed. This caused problems if you were delivering to a garage in a town the vehicle had to be jack knifed in the street!! These vehicles were fitted with retractable turntables which would allow the front car to be driven close to the cab and during the turn the trailer would move back leaving a clearance.
