Car trade platers

Few years ago was driving from Ipswich to Elgin in my car when at Sleaford I saw a trade plater standing by a roundabout with a sign saying ‘Scotland’ so I stopped to offer him a lift. He asked me how far I was going and told him Scotland as well. Obviously doing such a long run we talked about respective jobs and among other things he told me he got paid train fares etc etc. Got as far as Perth services to top up with diesel and we both went into the services for a coffee, he stood back while I paid for the fuel and drinks. He never even offered to pay for the coffee !! I even dropped him off at the collection address in Nethy Bridge and all he said was thanks and walked away. He must have made a few quid extra that day and it put me off picking any one else holding trade plates for good !!! Tight git (and he wasn’t from Scotland either but he may have come from Yorkshire)
My question are they all like him ■■?

No…He was taking the ■■■■.

Was he about 5’ 11", slim, with dark hair and wearing a blue shirt? If so some are like him while others look different. :stuck_out_tongue:

no, i picked one up from Atherstone whilst i was on my way home, he had a sign saying M69, picked him up and asked him where he was going, he was picking a car up from Bruntingthorpe airfield

due to the remote location of the place, i decided to take him all the way there, going out of my way to do so

when i dropped him off, he gave me a tenner for my trouble :grimacing:

did he also leave a note?

Yes as was stated before… a tenner

Nowt to do with truckin’ I know but movement of goods… Yes, Saving the boss man money!!
Awhile back the ship I was on changed charterers so I asked how much they gave me if I never took a pilot when not compulsory, they replied ‘We normally give our Russian captains 20/25% of money saved’. Yea right says I, ‘You had better order the pilot then cos I aint doin it for that cos I aint a Russian !!!’. What do you want then? he said… 50/50 or nothing… I got my 50%, lovely and running up the Mersey to Eastham the normal fee was £1140, pity we didn’t go there more often. My point being if you save someone a bit of dosh isn’t it only fair that the proceeds are divied up fairly?

With trade platers some are paid expenses others aren’t. Depends on the firm.

i gave a bloke a lift a few weeks ago. he works for paragon delivering new motors to jornalists and posh people who want one for a test drive. he drives nothing older than 3 months. he gave me a fiver for my trouble and it was only a couple of junctions up the motorway! nice guy and good to talk to.

Anyone Interested. :unamused:

A usual day would be to find your way to the first collection, collect the vehicle, deliver it to the customer and then commute to the next collection (we try to make the distance between jobs as short as possible this will sometimes mean that you drop off and collection is from the same place).

All collection and delivery paperwork is performed through an electronic proof of delivery system so an understanding of sat-nav and mobile phone technology is essential.

In order to take advantage of the Tax system we encourage Self Employed people to apply as they can dedicate as much or as little time to this opportunity (subject to prior arrangement) and offset all travel, uniform and business costs. Our current staff find that they pay little or no tax at the end of the financial year.

It is your responsibility to commute within jobs however should we expect you to travel an unreasonable distance expenses will be given.

You will need a float to get you going of around £200 because you will have to put fuel in some of the vehicles we will then reimburse you within 7 days of receiving your invoice. All salaries are processed and paid on 30 days (i.e. 4 weeks after you perform your first job)

We provide at no cost the Trade Plates, Insurance and Electronic POD’s :open_mouth:

Second paragraph would count me out then

I once saw a tramp standing by the roadside with a random yellow plate off a trailer, waiting for a lift

I had once very nice guy. He was over 75 years old and a trade plate driver. I gave him a lift from Hamilton to Doncaster. It was really surrealistic view - the hitchiker on the slip road with an umbrella and distinctive look of an English Gentleman…

He said that his wife has alzheimer and she’s in care home and he just can’t sit at his home and do nothing, so he makes some money as a trade plate driver and then travel around the world. He was just back from Paraguay, he has a trip booked to Uzbekistan and he was saving for the next one to Japan. He was an amazing guy, telling a lot of stories from his voyages and very wise man.

I asked him if he ever been to Poland. He said “no, the closest countries I decided to left for later, when I will be old”.

If anyone knows or meets him, say hello from me!

Sounds like a real nice guy leaving his poor suffering wife in a care home while he jets off around the world, :unamused: :unamused:

You got any better option, if she is in such a state that she do not recognize anyone and anything?

Still he visits her as often as he can, but he said it’s very painful for him (and I don’t blame him).

Maybe if OUR national health service wasn’t having to waste so much money on health tourists and fellow members of the common market newly released from the tyranny of the ex communist block regeme then just maybe we could care a bit more for our own.

Orys, it you dont agree… tough!!
