Car Nav or Truck Nav?

MrMartyn1984:
iPhone ones are out there that will work offline and don’t chew data

Is your phone jailbroken? There’s a copilot truck app floating about

If it is, put tomtom on it.

i have been testing the new tom tom 5150 pro truck for the last 4 weeks £300.
it has worked 100% and i have tried to fool it by low bridges etc etc. pefect in all ways.
its miles better than snooper, navman etc. but do you want to spend £300
you get liftime map updates and 12 months free live services too.

sorry to add,

tom tom speed cams are crap so i disabled them and use the pocketgpsworld cams.

and its spot on.

Ordered the snooper a few hours ago… Lets see how it does.

Will let you all know!

Oh dear.

Ken

Buy a google nexus 7. Then download tomtom truck maps. All in for £258.

How do you turn tomtom speed cameras off for use in france ?

toby1234abc:
I have the Snooper S700, you can input up to 16 multi-drops, avoid road closures, and choose ADR routes, the TV is very good for nights out, the build is robust and the wiring is strong, you get a long magnetic base aerial for the TV.
i got £40 knocked off the MRP.
The phone blue tooth is very good, you pair your mobile up to it, so you can speak in to the sat nav on the move.
You can input truck weight, height, length, so one week in a rigid then next week in a 44 tonner.

I took mine back, with a very long list of the serious mistakes… Never ever Snooper again. Tomtom 7100 much better.

yes dennis the tomtom 7100 is much better
even tho i have the tomtom 7000 which is more or less the same
both are truck sat navs and they are the best
forget all this snooper/garmin nonsence they are crap
and you dont want to be messing about looking at maps on a mobile phone while your driving
unless you want four lots of £60 fines and 3 points on your licence

One of our guys uses one of these and it works a treat.

i have 1 of those…works a treat…excellent value…only issues ive had are it wont send me through the dartford tunnel unless i reduce the weight setting to under 7.5 tons and sometimes it tells me the speed limit on some stretches of motorway is 94mph■■?
its never sent me under a low bridge or into a 7.5 ton limited road.i am very pleased with it.

I bought a truck sat nav from ebay for under 85,dont get me wrong its a 5 inch screen but has a camera an can download music an films as it has a small memory card from a mobile, it an if you have a mobile dongle you can ug that into it an go online,
I got it as im wanting to go back onto genral haulage instead of doing multidrop an do the same route every day an only 50 miles a day
I have used it when in the car and it is great, gives you weight timits, bridge heights, speed cameras an speed limits

Even better when you have a lifetime subscription to PGSW

Though no pratnav is any good if the plug on the ciggy socket decides to fall apart loosing the fuse, spring, etc and you only realise its happened a week later when you need it

If you’ve got an Android phone or tablet then you can buy a truck sat nav program for £119 that will save you buying a sat nav altogether.

I have sat nav on my iphone BUT its chews the battery and also the Data allowance as well.

Yes i could use my in car charger… but it chews the data on the phone just a little too quickly!

Get an offline one then, as I said, copilot is free, download it when you’re at home on your wifi to save your data allowance - although I’m unlimited anyway so don’t bother

No phone ones will work offline as they use the data connection to gather where they are!

Unlimited data would be a massive bonus! Shame o2 dont do it for the iphone unless they want to charge you a bomb for it! And even then i dont think they do it!

OK, iv decided ill be buying a truck nav.

But the questions is

The snooper or the Tom Tom there only £20 in the price which one is better or are they both the same?

Actually, phones use GPS to find where you are, they can use data as well to speed it up or if you’re inside and no satalite line of sight :unamused:

Have they fixed stupid things like thinking the dartford is a 7.5t?
