My daughter turns 17 soon and we are buying her a car anyone know what companies are good for insuring youngsters ?
Admiral . I think it was another company that are part of admiral but both my kids started with them as they came out with the best quotes.
Also if you can afford to pay for the year upfront it’s about 25% cheaper than doing it on the never never 12 month payment plan .
See if you can find a local company.
Thats what I did when I was 17.
Granted I dont know what Bristol is like for insurance but I was on the Isle of Wight which has one of if not the lowest rates in the uk.
Or also look at bonus accelerator schemes- They give you a years ncb for 9 months insurance.
I did that when I moved to the mainland-Be warned though some companies will not recognize the ncb but most will
If your brave…or daft enough look at adding her to your insurance policy that’s gonna be the cheapest way, more so that insurance itself I’d look at what cars fall in the lowest insurance groups first, that should be your starting point.
Hi bald bloke.
I’ve just got insurance for my son.
After days of tiresome internet looking. Ringing round.
I managed to get insurance for £1751. All in.
With a company called premium choice in castle Bromwich in Birmingham.
That’s without a black box to. So there’s no curfew on it.
Be careful when you look online as if your daughter hasn’t passed her test before you get the insurance when you go online they will give you a quote for her on a provisional licence. Then when she passes her test it’ll go through the roof.
Some insurances do two types of insurance.
One were you pay a premium say £642 on a provisional then when they pass their test its goes up to £2700 for the premium.
That’s what premium choice quoted me for my son.
The second is for a insurance premium which doesn’t change when they passed their test.
It’s a little higher to start but you certainly reep the rewards when they pass their test.
I did my sons this way & it cost £1751 with no clauses.
IE. No black box monitoring their driving & when they pass their test they can use the car 24/7 as there’s no curfew.
That’s in his own name to so he’s accruing his own no claims from day one.
That price is on a Corsa breeze to.
Be careful when looking for a car make sure it is totally standard.
No alloys. Boot spoiler. Body kit that is an after market product or they won’t insure it.
It has to be as it came out the factory.
Hope this helps.
Oh I forgot also add you your wife & any other older people to the policy as named drivers. It brings the price down.
best way to keep insurance down for a youngster is to stay away from the hatchback stereotype. a diesel saloon will tend to be much cheaper to insure than a 1.1l petrol corsa etc.
I used Priviledge £1695 with black box. The black box was a waste of time it said the car was moving when it was parked on the drive, I informed them so they sent another and this did the same, I got in touch with then again regarding this and was told not to worry about it as they can see which were the proper journeys so I asked for a reference no. in case of any further issues
He wrote the car off 6 months later and the black box was nether mentioned at any time through the claim process and Paid out £2100
I was dreading the renwal quote but was suprised when it arrived as it was now £1400
This was for a 2006 Ford Fiesta 1.4 Climate Petrol and there was no curfews or mileage limits
Thanks for your replies so far, she wants a VW polo so she shares her Dad’s love of German cars and we are going to spend about 2k on it.
i can only echo what people have said, a lad i know is going through the same thing with insurance, and found that a mk1 merc A-class is considerably cheaper to insure than the likes of a corsa/clio/polo etc.
Look at Ingenie.com again black box but if the driver is good they get a reduction or rebate, if bad driving, it goes up.
my eldest is 17 in nov ,I’ve bought her a 1.1 peugeot ,first on line quote from drive like a girl £5000, crazy ,i had an xr2 at 18 that the ins cost £400.
Try Go Girl insurance.
A young lad knocks on the door one night last month ,he’s put his car on its side on the stone wall down the road .i went down towed it on to its wheels ,towed up to my house and put it out the way ,i said i can bring it back to you or take it to a scrap yard ,so I’ve saved him from the cops, saved him from the land owner ,saved him recovery or having to tell his insurance ,what does he do ,tell the insurance to come get the car !

When I was 18, they quoted me just over a grand for a Calibra comp, which I thought wasn’t bad. That was fifteen years ago though lol
