These are public roads that everybody has to drive on, if you can’t afford to drive to a reasonable speed/drive properly then stay home & drive however you like on your own driveway…!

So, why the ■■■■ are you whinging then?
Just look at tge hgvhgv icon to get a idea of the mentality! he’s a stobarts driver!
He won’t have a clue that it’s called a speed limit because it’s a limit not a target, probably insists on doing 30mph passed school children waiting to cross the road because it’s the limit.
Probably does 50 MPH on dual carriage ways down hill in the rain with a dead stop at the bottom because it’s the limit!
hgvhgv:
What is it with car drivers who on dcs and motorways drive at less than 56 mph? They sit there for miles at 50 and cause chaos! If they cant do the correct speed according to the road conditions and where its safe to do so then they shouldnt be allowed on the road! Cant you get done for it?!
What sort of chaos do they cause because you have trucks doing 50mph. So that means your admitting that trucks cause a problem on the road then?
It is rather annoying when you pull out to overtake and they speed up!

I think thats what the OP is getting at. So far as I am concerned if cars want to do 50 up a motorway, let them, HOWEVER is boils my pee when you move out to overtake them, then they spot you trying pass and speed up to 56 just to stop you passing. We know they do this because then they slow down again once you pull back in behind them. I had one old twonk today who frankly frightened me - old red car, zig-zagging from one side of the lane to the other, speeding up and down, he really was all over the place. I tried to pass him, saw him spot me in his mirror and put his foot down to stop me passing. I then dropped back in behind him and lo and behold, he was back down to 50 again. I don’t know what this is in law but its damned irritating! In the end I just dropped down to about 52 to let him get ahead, and soon enough I was at my exit slip.
Thank you dan thats excatly what I am talking about. And fyi I am not a Stobarts driver and will never convert to the way of the elf!

And a big +1 to this!

Trucks never do that though do they?

In fairness Vern yes, on occasion they do. But as the vehicles are speed limited (usually anyway) it is less of a hassle, usually if you were fast enough on the flat before, you will be again to have a second go - usually if they somehow accelerate its due to the silent downhill overdrive which we know doesn’t work on the flat, unless you are Irish of course
TBH I have only rarely encountered this scenario, my Atego is quicker than a lot of lorries out there…

If you cant afford the fuel then get a bike! Bloody car drivers.
I take it from your comments that you NEVER drive a car.

Nope I dont drive a car because it costs too much and Im.saving up for a deposit. Much better than wasting my money on fuel tax insurance ect…
For some of us a car is a must, I just cannot cycle 25 miles after a fifteen hour shift.

To be honest I think we just expect far to much from our fellow motorists. Why should we expect them to know how to drive professionally and to the same standard as we do. They get their license, turn the key and off they go.
At last the voice of reason.
Why do those who drive for a living expect those who don’t to be as switched on and natural when doing so.
Part of being a professional lorry driver is taking the antics of unprofessionals into account as just another aspect of our normal days work, its a pity so many unprofessionals now sit behind the wheel of lorries but thats a discussion for another day.

Perhaps you would like to enlighten us as to why a car driver should drive at 56 mph on a duel carriageway or motorways, and what is “the correct speed according to the road conditions”.
It’s not the car drivers who quite legally drive at 50 mph on duel carriageways or motorways that concern me it’s your apparent lack of ability to rationally deal with them that concerns me
You can fail your driving test for not making good progress when its safe to do so. When its a sumny day and the roads are clear why would you not drive at 70? If its ■■■■■■■ it down with rain and there is heavy traffic then its understandable.
i would say that travelling too slow when joining a motorway/dual carriageway is dangerous.
Its beautiful outside, my lovely wifey and i have just been about 20 miles (both ways) on an open single carriage A road in my car, all windows (pillarless)and sunroof open, we’ve only travelled at about 50/55mph where according to you i should have been travelling at precisely the 60mph legal limit in order to maintain normal progress…WHY?, we were in no rush and impeded no one else.
It was wonderful, glorious sunshine and a lovely gentle breeze flowing through her hair, what could be a better way to travel in a dignified way.
You’ll be an old man before you’re a young 'un if you carry on stressed about the slightest irritation like this, take the road as it presents itself.
Sorry, got to bugger off now, going to have stroll down by the lakes with herself and the dog, we’ll be walking at a leisurely pace, unlike the Vizsla who will be tearing round like a trucker looking for his first heart attack.
Its a hard life but someone has to do it…
If I drive in my car at 70mph I get around 54mpg, at around 55 I get 72 mpg, thats a hell of a saving so I just leave 10 mins early and chillax.
I tend to find a lorry get a safe distance behind it and tweek the cruise until I’m doing exactly the same speed.
This shouldn’t cause you any problems as if you’re faster than me and the lorry I’m following then you would have had to move out to overtake him anyway.

As long as you aren’t disturbing the flow of traffic & making others change course/direction then fair enough(which is mostly rare).
Personally I’d rather get the mrs there & back quicker in air conditioned surroundings(windows tightly shut) so that there’s less chance of smells between the legs/pits, messy hair & more time for trouser kisses upon a speedy return…
