Sorry…
Cap`n Pugwash never did innuendo.
I too thought it was a swipe at the TV programmes, but no.

Master Mate might be near, but no Staines or any other Seaman, or whatever else legend says.

Next well be told lemmings dont jump off cliffs.

I understood nothing of the preceding posts… What is happening?
Is that an invitation to dig a deeper hole?
.
In another thread summat was mentioned. (I`ll come to that) I tried cutting it out and it made for a very confusing post. I tried tidying it, and made it worse.
So, Sky Eater or whoever made a comment involving “mass debates”
(Any joke explained is never funny)
Then a later post referencing Captain Pugwash, and back to his previous one.
The point being that the old kids programme "allegedly" had many puns etc about ■■■ and such like. In the press it was widely seen. It struck a chord with many who have repeated it. I know because I did too for a while. But a case went to court and it was all a load of tosh. Being tosh wasnt as interesting as the original wrong story of course.
There was a Master Mate, but no Seamen, and no Staines, the cabin boy wasn`t Roger(ed).

Is it not strange how urban myths occur, often in plain sight.
I once would of swore blind to laughing at Seaman Staines whilst watching Captain Pugwash when I was younger.
The actual truth is, he was not a character at all, and the creator, John Ryan, won retractions and a settlement from the Guardian(spit) after the BBC pulled the cartoon on the strength of the papers allegations.

Now that is an opening for any amount of /political/social/medical/religious/ posts…!
Please, please, please don’t delete your o/p Franglais as that’d merely make the responses look silly. Plus, it’s always fascinating to watch a man’s descent into madness!

Sorry that you arrived too late for that particular party then…
