Hi guys been driving class 2 now over a year for agency’s(I want a full time job steady job) and have held my class 1 over a month now and have not done a days work with it yet. I really want some experience. But no 1 will touch me with out 2 years experience .
advice please ricky from essex.
Why worry about using the CE when you have experience on C and can get work ?
CE job will come at some point in the future
Full time perm jobs are like hens teeth even with years of experience - plenty of zero hours jobs about !!!

I upgraded my licence to use and paid out a lot of money So need to get some of that back .Even in 2 years time I will be in same position if i get no experience. I just want to progress my career.

na just dreamers think that as they’ve spent lots of money the industry owes … I’ll drive anything legal
Not trying 2 say I’m special or that I’m owed. Was just asking for some advice. I’m a family man trying 2 do the best I can for my family
please if any one can give me some adavice on how I can get my foot in the door please do . comments like nicks not needed please
You’ve had your class 1 a whole month and cant get anyone to give you a start? And you think thats a suitable time frame to start getting antsy? When I passed my C+E it was 6 months before I got behind the wheel of an artic. For one shift. It was another 6-8 months before I got a full time job.
I understand why your so desperate to get going. I was the same. I always wanted C+E and the class C I only did because I needed it for the CE but you need a bit more patience. Other than keeping on at companies and continually asking, theres not a whole lot else you can do. It will happen for you eventually. At some point you’ll ask a company who are desperate or short staffed and you’ll get in the door.
But having four posts and having a go at established forum members is not the way to go about it. When you DO get a start you might need help or advice from some members on here and it wont help if you’ve had a go at some of them in the past.
I’m in the same boat m8. drifting around surrey. I thot i would be a hot cookie having air side pass and living near 2 major airports. EEEE wrong. No one interested.
Driver Shortage alright.
the only way you’ll find the jobs and get a foot in the door is by knocking on it in person not through email.

Like the idea. But how the one finds that door? I have no idea.
its a numbers game, just knock on any doors that run trucks, shirt and trousers won’t hurt, but toe cappers and ppe in the boot helps as well. just pick an industrial estate and go door to door with a bunch of cv’s. I keep a list of where I’ve been and afterwards note down the tm’s name. then tomorrow pick a different industrial estate and start over. it doesn’t normally take long before you get a bite
Have you tried agency work for class 1 work ? Some people knock them, but they’re good to get some experience under your belt.
I was on the agency at Yodel Hatfield before last Xmas and Yodel were looking for/still are as far as I know and they give newly passed a start,I know because I was chatting to one they had taken on.
Nothing to lose by giving them a bell.
ask for some work experience, odd day here etc… No one wants to work for naff all mate but you know, if a job does come up you’d certainly be top of there list…
I’ve done it and I’ve never been out of work since passing my cat c 6 years ago, and if nothing comes of it at least you can put it on your cv, would it really look bad if you put work experience down at which ever company. It would show your serious!! And willing to learn
Keep yr eyes open when out and about
The people with ‘drivers wanted’ signs outside are most likely if u get yr timings right .
Places like felixstowe , youngs of purfleet , motorway at basildon , those sort of dudes
Get six weeks of ■■■■■ work from them then lie through yr teeth and say u got 6 months
If its any confort i got first job within a week of passing test
18 years of misery followed
Rick. Im sorry you cant get your foot in the door. Can you get the other one in,or do you stay outside all night?
Soon as I passed last month in drove straight to a haulage company and they started me straight away lol. Had like 6 other offers too lol
Pm’d
Try the supermarkets, or find out which agencies supply the supermarkets, they generally take on newbies pending you pass their assessment ok.
Also go on google and search for all the haulage companies in your area and pay them a visit. Takes a bit of time but it shows your keen, and i have heard of a few people getting jobs with this approach.
I have had my license about a month, am driving for tesco through an agency but with the view of going full time onto their rota, BUT then again the avonmouth / bristol area does seem to have a lot of HGV opportunities, more so than other parts of the country.
just keep trying. If you’re in Essex, try tilbury/felixtowe container operators Maritime/Wincanton/Youngs etc. However usually smaller companies are the best shout to take a risk with you. If you’re class 2, find a firm that operates both and do the odd shift on the arctic for them, maybe tipper firms etc. Pertemps for Royal Mail at Chelmsford, they put me in an arctic at 21, one of the best driving jobs going for my money when AWR kicks in.
How about Continental Express in Waltham Cross, wander down to Gibraltar double manning - they might go for that if they’re short of drivers.
If Essex is short of work, maybe wander to South/West Yorkshire or Avonmouth where they’re short of drivers, you’ll earn as much there as you will in the South East these days.
