Canadian company from Qubec

Hi fellas
A few weeks ago there was a Canadian company from Quebec advertising in here, that was looking to import drivers.
They were going to be coming to London, for a bank holiday weekend, a couple of weeks ago, or so, to meet and interview prospective drivers.

One of the guys that works with me, was keen on meeting them, he send them and email about a month ago, got a reply, they seemed interested, I then advised him to ask them a few basic questions, about the type of job and conditions, but he never got any reply, so he got put off, and never went to see them in London, as it would require him to travel for 3 hours one way, and take a holiday leave as he was scheduled to work that weekend.

Has anybody on here, actualy been to London to see them?
If so, would you be willing to share with us, what you have learned about them and the job?

Thanks

Might not be the same company, but have you seen this thread?

Hi Franglais
Yes, I know that thread and some people’s replies fully match what I have learned about the subject, over the last 5 years looking into it.
I am a very well known, and not very much liked, individual on that forum, for saying as it is and asking questions, which, I guess, I have no right to be asking, as someone who has never been to Canada, so obviously, in the eyes of some individuals there, I know nothing.
There are a couple of guys, on that forum, that have decent jobs, but the rest of them have pretty miserable lives there.

I thought it was the company with the Green trucks from Quebec that were coming to London.
Can’t find the thread back though.

If its a co with green trucks it could be SGT,Saint Germain Transport from ST Germain de Grantham. When i worked for them they had over 1200 trucks. They run all over Canada,USA and down to Mexico[drop trlrs].Remember Quebec is not the easiest of provinces to live and work in.

My take on it is any company with more than about 60 trucks is going to be a BOS, that applies as much in the UK as it does in North America.

Some love it, others slate it.

The ship I have sometimes struggles to get out of the harbour let alone the Clyde estuary so without a shadow of a doubt would never make it to Canada …

yes, it was SGT2000 from Quebec.
They advertised in here a few weeks ago, but now the advert disappeared.
What were they like to work for, Hutpik, what trailers were you pulling, did you have a choice of what trailers to work with, did you work long there and why did you leave them?
They might have given up on coming to London, in the end, if they had no victims contacting them and willing to come down to London to see them.

Regarding Eddie Stobart.
From what I’ve learned so far, I suspect Eddie Stobart job, would have been regarded as one of the better jobs in Canada, when take into consideration conditions that are being offered to drivers here and over there.
There wouldn’t be that many jobs in Canada that would beat what Eddie offers it’s drivers over here

Hi hkloss. My situation was a bit different. My wife was Quebecois so it was easier to fit in with the co as we were working as a team.We ran reefers, mostly in a sort of triangle trip, from Montreal down to Mexico border, then back up to LA area, then back to Canada for a summer. Then we went up to Tultoyaktuk to work the Winter. For us it was more a chance to see all round North America and be paid,so it was not considered as a career, especially as we planned to move back to Holland to continue working as a team.It was finacially better in Holland to earn Money towards old age, with less stress. We planned to retire early in Holland then move to Canada, only my wifes Death stopped that, but up here in Lappland its almost the same as Canada.
Canada is a wonderful country but, like anywhere its what you make it.Nothing is as easy as at first appears.

I suspect, when you say “Canada is a wonderful country” you are referring to how beautiful the landscape is, and not how good working conditions for drivers are, am I correct?

Canada is like any other country, its what you make it.It depends on reasons for going there[or anywhere],if you want to just get rich or you are looking for a better '‘quality of life’,if the second then you take the good and bad things and make a package for yourself.
In my case i found that i could make more in Holland with less stress, and combined with the better pension package i was able to build up in Holland it was preferable to work there and retire somewhere else.

Coming from someone who"s never lived in Canada , or I suspect even visited the country , what do you base your opinion on ? Information gathered off the internet ? :unamused:

My thoughts too, yet another passive aggressive anti Canada post and they wonder why they get a hard time from people that have made the move to Canada and have no regrets in having done so.

Quite why someone who clearly has a dislike of Canada would look into working here for the last 5yrs is beyond me, but it takes all sorts to make the world go around.

As a purely personal thought,i Think many people seem to compare Canada with the USA,especially in regards to living and working there.Yes,they speak '‘more or less’'the same langauge, but other than that they could not be more dissimilar, especially in relation to mentality and attitude.

To NMM, off thread a bit I know but are you seeing more Euro Volvo’s over there now? Think the XXL cab is built at factory now, Australia being a target market and I did wonder if Canada would be also as you did once report of a Quebec firm having a small fleet of them. Think they’ve finally sorted out the battery/starting issues that plagued the version 4.
