When I view some posts with pictures in them, all I see is a small white box with a red cross in it.

Two things spring to mind,
1, Sometimes, when the net is busy, the bandwidth isn’t available to download the pictures quickly enough. If you hit the refresh button, the pictures should download the second time round. You can also right click on the white box and choose to “download picture”.
2, Unlikely as its only sometimes, but, have a look in your ‘internet options’ under the ‘advanced’ tab, and ensure that ‘show pictures’ is ticked.
Not any sort of expert on 'puters so there may be another option, but I think its most likely option 1.
Let us know if this doesn’t work and someone else may have another idea.

I checked the show pictures box and all is fine now.
