“And Wheelnut, as a TM myself I would be very impressed if a driver came to me and asked if he could polish the truck up or make it look smarter, shows he cares.”
I think most Transport Managers would see it as an indication that they hadn’t given the driver enough work to do.

Is it my fault that RDC’s want to take 8 hours to unload one trailer at some places? Surely as a tm he would think that at least I want to do something in the time im waiting doing something worth while?

Me too, but if a driver took a grinder or wet and dry to the truck to remove paint, colour change company livery or otherwise alter a vehicle that may well be leased, I would sack him.
A good TM would have already specced up the truck with Alloys and Eminox stacks anyway.
Me, I would prefer the money in my wage packet
By the by normal alloys are pretty crap and you need to polish them all the time for them to look good where as dura brite alloys from Alcoa are the lazy mans choice for perma shine wihout the elbow grease.
