and ate 3 square meals a day
And that’s another reason why people were not fat then - fact! ( I sound like me Dad now!)
Of course we didn’t have BK or McD but how easy is it to get a quick takeaway?

i usually run about 4 times during the week, anywhere from 3 to 8 miles. if i can’t get a shower, a big bottle of water does the trick untill i find a shower. I’ve lost 3 stone in a year, mainly due to exercise, and also kicking my biscuit habit. couldn’t drink a cup of coffee without a few biccies!i started off walking half an hour every night, and gradually progressing onto short jogs. you can walk or run virtually anywhere. MSA…look for the access road, this normally takes you to a fairly quiet country road. layby…look for footpaths. industrial estates…look on map for roads leading into town.
i have built a network of runs which i can usually plan into my day, breaks or overnight parking. some routes are city centres, some are all out muddy off road runs. even run up and down the devils staircase on the west highland way.
i still have the odd pint mid week, and usually a binge at the weekend. food wise, i tend to bring home cooked stuff ie chilli, curry or bolognese. just heated through on a gas stove. avoid very sugary cereals and snacks. and i also eat very little bread.
hope that all makes some sense and hopefully helps a bit!
Gotta say mate - hat’s off to you
of course you can, even walking round a services/truckstop for 10 mins a night is better than nothing.
my line of work were constantly lifting/moving stuff/building or packing trailers so were always working up a sweat, especially when stacking stuff near the roof of the trailers…its worse than sticking your head in an oven.
I’m off for a dirty big kebab

The TRUE trampers of yesteryear never had weight problems(well only with overloading!) with all the sheeting and roping plus regular handballing they did. They also stayed in digs as well and ate 3 square meals a day,no E.coli vans or camping in cabs in those days! Just shows how far the transport industry has sunk IMO! Bewick.
That must be me Dennis, I wore size 32 trousers in 1972 now I’m a fat container driver I have to squeeze into size 34. I rarely eat fryups but i do like a beer on a regular basis I try to cycle at the weekend (20 miles before breakfast on sunday) . As I am 64 I dont do to bad for my age healthwise, but it was a lot easier to keep the weight off when I sheeting loads on a daily basis. regards kevma47

or hit the gym when not working.
So why not join a national gym?? Choose the right one and most major towns and cities have one. I did and I still mange to get there 2 or 3 times a week when I’m out. Plus there is normally loads of room to park up and after a quick word with someone on reception, I’ve never been asked to move on. And u get the added bonus of free CLEAN showers.
Take a skipping rope with you, a quick 20 mins workout stood by the side of your wagon will bring on a decent sweat.
Do 50 press-ups and sit-ups in your bunk every night or morning as well.
Paul.
(oh, hello as well)

I’m a container driver, and a tramper, and I’ve lost 4.5 stone in the last year. But how fat were you to begin with? For you to lose that much weight with doing little exercise you must’ve been a fair old size to being with imho.
Yep. I was a proper fat knacker. 14.5 stone, Rob. I’m still 10 stone and size 12 now, at 5ft 5in tall.

Yea but what you are now is normal aint it ?
Yeah, although on the heavy side of it. It works out at a BMI of 23.3, where above 18 and below 25 is “healthy”.

Well done for losing all that. I know from personal experience of having been a fat ■■■■ myself that it’s a nightmare to lose weight through conventional methods.
I’m a big fat git…Couldn’t care less.I’m healthy and only have 1 life. It’s over when it’s over. Enjoy yerself.

Unfortunately that dont work for me as BMI only covers "average hight " not short or too tall
