If the Emergency regs come into force IE off tacho which would allow drivers to do an extra shift I think they would have no problem.
If the gov would supply truck & trailer & fuel I’d give up a rest day to trunk on.
They could have trunkng station set up quite easily just off the M5 at Avonmouth /Portbury

I agree , I don’t see why they haven’t used the powers the government have to relax the drivers hours rules for those moving feed into Somerset- If the situation there isn’t a national emergency I am not sure what is

Perhaps I’m not singing from the same hymn sheet here but I tend to think of farmers as being far wealthier than small hauliers, so if they want this stuff moving then could they not perhaps consider paying us for it?

I have volunteered my services should any bulk feedstuffs need transporting to the West Country from Yorkshire.

I think the big supermarkets who make vast profits and dictate to the farmers, should take the lead and offer financial help to the farmers. I don’t think many hauliers are in a position to help them.
The construction industry has been badly hit by the weather, which has also hit a lot of hauliers.

Small farmers are usually about as wealthy as small hauliers

But they do get subsidies and grants Denis, whereas small hauliers don’t.

They are trying to help, although maybe finding the loads a bit trickier than baked beans

Glad to see that they are doing something to help Denis. I have sympathy for the farmers, also the animals in this wet weather, especially sheep out in all the wet weather. But I don’t think many hauliers can do any work for nothing… As a haulier yourself, you know how tight things are these days.
Cheers Dave.

I’ve seen a Knights of Old wagon and photos of Tesco wagons helping out,(and fb reports that Asda are getting involved too) I wouldn’t expect a small haulier to do it for nothing.

Some of the small farmers will not survive this financially though

I have volunteered

I’m surprised they haven’t relaxed the rules, saying as the Thames Valley is under 1 inch of water, and the 4x4 brigade are worried that their motors will get dirty.

Ken.

In my vast experince of dealing with farmers, they do come out with the usual lines of how hard there up but they are doing better then most small hauliers. I wish I could run my truck on Red and get subsidlies etc. They do, however, work bloody hard for what they get. But there is no such thing as a poor farmer.

Her Majesty the Queen has kindly donated her own animal feed to the farmers in Somerset. Thanks Mam.
She used to drive Army trucks in the war,and is very good at off road driving on her estates.
There was a stunning moment on tv when she came close to a stag.
They made eye contact.
She had tracked it for a few days.

Ok first things first Iv been asked by by local yfc to do a load (from ■■■■■■■■ Iv never hesitated , I’m a one man band who is far from rich , secondly farmers do get a good sub each year, but where do u think it gets spent? It goes back into the local economy , so it’s a sub for all of us !
