I started work last Sunday at 4pm after a reduced weekly rest
Today is Friday (my 6th shift)
I started work at 2pm
Ive used 1 reduction so far
My 15 hours are up at 5am Saturday morning
Can I have 9 hours off until 2pm Saturday afternoon then drive home as long as I’m back before 4pm ■■ ( this would be 144 hours since the start of my working week )
I’m currently on a DCPC course and I’m the only one that thinks I can
I suppose I must be missing something, but given that the OP had taken a reduced weekly rest the previous weekend, would he not need to finish the current week by 7pm on friday?
(I’ve been doing the job for years and freely admit to not being clear on many aspects of tacho regs.)

The reduction only affects my next weekly rest and has no impact onto the 6x24 periods to my next weekly rest

No- regardless of the rest period taken the previous weekend, he is allowed to work for 144 hours ( i.e. 6 x 24 hours) before he needs to start his next rest period.

I too, think that’s correct. The regs talk about “starting” the next weekly rest.
Unlike daily rest when it must be “completed” within 24hrs.
Is that maybe what Old John is thinking of?
I’m really struggling to get drivers to understand this, they have the 6 x 24 hour periods in their heads and are convinced this is shifts and there’s no changing their minds
It is not legal. After 6 daily (24 hour) driving periods you are required to take a weekly rest (45/24 hours whichever is due).
Your shift 6 started at 2pm on Friday and by 2pm on Saturday (24 hours) you have completed your 6th daily driving period and a weekly rest is due then. By doing a 7th shift on Saturday starting at 2pm you would have failed to comply with the weekly rest requirement.
A driver must start a weekly rest period no later than at the end of six consecutive 24-hour periods from the end of the last weekly rest period.

Well, that’s news to me because I used to regularly start on Sunday afternoon and run in at the end of the week on Saturday morning and my tachograph analysis software never once flagged it up as an infringement.

He sort of contradicts himself, firstly he states “after 6 daily driving periods (I can’t see anywhere in the regs that states daily driving periods)” then at the end he states weekly rest should be no longer than 6 consecutive 24 hour periods ■■
I spoke to someone at DVSA on the phone and they confirmed I was ok to do 7 shifts as long as 144 hours was adhered to and had a complete daily rest after every shift.
No he’s said not, must be a grey area.
