Can I drive with a minibus on my C license?

One of my mates looking to hire a minbus for a stagdo and wondered if I would be able to drive it? As its not for reward im guessing its ok■■? Tried googling it but cant really find a clear answer.

Should say on the back of your licence… generally yes, but check the restriction code on the back as it restricts the amount of seating as well.

When did you pass your car licence?

Depends on the plated weight of the minibus as to whether you can drive it on your CAR licence - having LGV makes no difference

If the minibus is not for ‘hire or reward’
You might be able to drive a minibus with up to 16 passenger seats using your current car driving licence as long as there’s no payment from or on behalf of the passengers (it’s not for ‘hire or reward’).
Conditions you must meet
You can drive a minibus within the UK as long as the following conditions apply:
you’re 21 or older
you’ve had your driving licence for at least 2 years
you meet the ‘Group 2’ medical standards if you’re over 70 - check with your GP if you’re not sure you meet the standards
you’re driving on a voluntary basis and the minibus is used for social purposes by a non-commercial body
the maximum weight of the minibus is not more than 3.5 tonnes - or 4.25 tonnes including specialist equipment for disabled passengers, eg a wheelchair ramp
you’re not towing a trailer

  1. Looking online says if passed after 97 there are certain conditions which must be met like the minbus cant be over 3.5 ton i think it said.

Those passing car test before 97 had a free minibus PCV D1 licence but was restricted to non commercial use with a 101 code next to it

That is why it only refers to the rules for post 96 licence holders as they only got B
