Can I do a Class 1 course and test in Northern Ireland

…with a normal mainland UK licence?

The reason for this is that I’ve found a cheap course there.

do you have a provisional lgv licence :exclamation: northern ireland is part of the uk but i think the law states you must have a class 2 first :unamused: if you have found a cheap course phone or email them. when you have paid your ferry, hotel and travelling is it really a cheap course   anyway good luck

I don’t think so. I looked into it myself.

Their licencing is done by the DVTA. In order to take a test in NI, you’d have to exchange the licence for a NI one.

I know the theory test has a couple of question that have different answers. For instance on the mainland after an accident you have up to 24 hours to report it, in NI you have to do it there and then AFAIK. (those questions appear in the book and CD ROM as “not in NI”)

Cheap it is, but what about accommodation? Could you not find a one-man-band (e.g. not VAT reg) somewhere that could do you a deal?

yes you can do your class 1 in N.Ireland as it is part of the uk as long as you have your class 2. In England you work through Swansea we work through Colereine for ours but it is all uk so there would be no problem.
Good luck
