Can anyone recommend any good north east haulage companies that would be interested in taking someone on a voluntary basis to allow them to get a wider insight into transport management/planning before I consider signing up to a logistics course. I have tried writing to a few but I keep getting responses back saying sorry no vacancies, but I am not looking for a job yet just a place who could take me on voluntairly to train up.
Thanks
Try the jobcentre. That’s the sort of thing they are s’posed to sort out, seeing as they’re no bleedin’ good at finding jobs for the unemployed
No good, ive come to the conclusion its going to be who you know rather than what you know!
A phone call to explain exactly what your after may be better than writing letters or sending your CV. It also depends on where in the NE you are and whether you have transport yourself.
Try searching the company website for a contact name so you can at least ask for a person rather than the HR manager.
You could also try some of the training providers (Van Hee, Team Train etc) to see about a Logistics Apprentership which you’ll get paid for. They’ll have some of the info your looking for.
I live in the jarrow area, I have my own car, so would be prepared to travel a bit nut if its voluntary not to far. I am aware of some companies via my previous role but I dont want to get intouch with them as I was recruitng for an agency and dont wish to get in contact until my 6 months has lapsed as per contract.
Why don’t you just apply for a proper job…with wages?
Because I have very little experience in what I want to do and at the moment commitment to my child who has an illness is making it difficult to work the minimum 16 hours per week so I am using this opportunity to get in as much experience as I can, I do not want to be stuck in some dead end office job again.

you should fit right in to a traffic office then, probably get a job as a planner
That is quite rude, I am trying to improve myself and gain experience surely that is better than just presuming I know everything and jumping in at the deep end.

the first thing you need to learn is a sense of humour
