Hi just a shot in the dark, My Dad’s name was Johnny Annan and he worked for Bill Puxley, Thomas Paine, and S.J. Selfe all off of the Isle of Dogs, It would nice if anyone can remember him, he was a driver his whole life… Thanks his son Lee.
You will probably be better putting it on the old time forum. There is an sj sellfe thread on there do you might have some luck
Hi there, i worked for Bill, when his boy ran the office ( took over the company ) Puxley senior still had his F88 on the road back then. We had a mixed fleet of mostly Volvos and a few Leylands, with drop down beds, Our manager then used to work for rainham steel co, and bought a lot of work with him when he joined Puxley, which meant us tramping up to Scotland 2-3 times a week. i only recall a couple of drivers from that time, Johnny Holroyd, and Ernie
, for i used to run with them a lot, although we did meet up on a saturday for the weekly wash, where bill would treat us to breakfast after we washed the truck, tilted the cab to steam the engine and chassis. we were proper drivers then.
