Can a GATSO catch you if you are going towards the camera?

I thought the could only catch you when you were heading away from the camera?
One flashed me today as I was going towards it but it flashed when the front of the cab was just past the back of the camera, so it would not of got the number plate. No other gatso has done this when I have been over the speed limit and heading towards it.

I also thought I got flashed on the way into birmingham by another camera but had a look on google earth and realised it was some unlucky driver who was driving down the other carriageway as there was no camera on my side of the road

They’re not approved for forward use so you can’t be prosecuted.

No me and my mate used to blast past a camera in Glasgow setting it off for fun all the time

Although I wouldn’t make a habit of it… :unamused:

Gatso’s aren’t suppost to flash towards the driver as this can obviously cause a crash.
However I think the Truvelo speed camera can as it has something to do with and infrared flash or something, just like the average speed cameras.

It’s a normal flash with a magenta filter.

As has been said, you may have been flashed but you won’t be prosecuted.

Some do work forward facing and you will get prosecuted, however it depends on the make of the camera as stated above truvelo ones are forward facing

Not on a motorcycle

Don’t think they can. I pass one on the A1 at Co’path every day and if you go over 65 towards it you will almost always set it off. Used to do it all the time for the hell of it, but then i got to thinking - what if they change the rules and i don’t hear about it? :open_mouth:

I used to set the one off on the A51 at Sandon heading towards Rugeley, For anyone that knows the road, you will know the one i mean. its just inside the 40 zone going the other way, towards Stone. But the Dual Carriageway starts inside the 40 zone going towards Rugeley. Used to floor it in the right hand lane while in my Fiat Doblo van i used to own. Was funny if there was a car going through the camera towards Stone and you did it

I am sure I can remember seeing an unusual one a few years back on the way out of Leeds on the A61 in the central reservation.A double header, looked like a normal Gatso but had a camera poking out of the back as well.It would have caught traffic in either direction.I did think all cameras were supposed to be yellow now but that does’nt seem to apply to the ones between Glossop and the M67,they’re the same shade of green as the hedges they are in front of.

I think it depends on who gets the revenue, if it’s the police it needs to be yellow.

It’s normally a fault with the alignment that causes this. There was one on Tuttle Hill in Nuneaton that was doing it for a while, we got expert at timing our 40mph pass to coincide with someone coming the other way and then chuckling thinking about them spending the next two weeks panicking :grimacing:

it was one of these that flashed

This is the one approved for front facing, the TRUVELO
