Iam not talking Argos gangsta bling, chains etc round the neck or gold sovereign rings.
Just a normal gold wedding band?

i suppose, it would all depend on the job the person is doing
Lorry driver, general haulage and plant work.

Company policy is wearing of rigger gloves at all times anyway.
If they can prove it is a genuine Health and Safety risk to you and or other workers or end users customers, (usually food manufacturers) they can force you to remove jewellery.
If you do not think it is justified then ask for their risk assessment of that policy, if they do not have one then you will be entitled to wear your wedding ring until they can prove otherwise with a risk assessment.
A lad got down off a trailer couple week ago.
Some wire which was attached to a stillage pierced his glove, got caught behind his wedding ring, gravity did the rest.
Not sure if he fell a grabbed at the nearest thing, or if he jumped or used 3 points of contact.
As an old climber 3 points of contact makes sense but something one off like that should not dictate policy as its a remote chance of happening again.
I would have thought a general memo or if they are more precise, training in how to disembark a trailer would be the best course of action.
I always left my ring at home when truck driving as I saw a couple of lads get hooked up on hose clips, cables etc. One came close to losing his finger. Wasn’t company policy though so I would think that they should state a reason in your case?
Pete.
Deliver new cars and we’re not allowed to wear any jewelry no studs on trousers even if you wear a belt we have a cover over buckle no watch unless it’s covered
I assume the outcome of this incident will mean some interest from the HSE, so I suppose they are trying to show they are taking steps to make sure it can’t happen again.
I heard of other jobs where things like wedding rings have to be removed for safety reasons, I don’t think it’s unreasonable especially in the light of this incident.
They can request you to Yes, if you decline - so be it.
Job role - risk assessment - company policy.
Personally, I like to keep my four fingers and one thumb per hand - having experienced getting a finger ring nearly torn off once, it hurts
Others, in other fields and areas have other preferences
Elf & safe tea , always wear a glove or 2 , its what its all about
My old man was a tanker driver for ICI in Runcorn when I was a kid & I remember meeting a couple of his mates who had fingers missing from stripping them when they slipped while climbing on the tank. Dad never wore a wedding ring because of this and I only wear mine when not working, it’s just something that stuck in my head
A driver loading waste paper at severnside waste paper Bristol when it was down on the Feeder was sheeting his load when as he was getting off the trailer caught his wedding ring on a wire twist it gloved his finger . Thats where the skin is stripped off the bone. Never wore a ring at work again.
30 years ago a mate of mine was climbing up some racking & jumped down catching his finger/ring, ripping it off, so I’ve never worn a ring at work ever since, wear it on a chain with my Thor’s Hammer now.
British sugar when I was loading tankers all watches jewelry must be removed and no aftershave or perfumes to be worn
Having had previous lives as a mechanic, then an on-site joiner, rings have always been a big no-no. martinviking`s solution of threading it through a neck chain is a sensible compromise, I think. Sentiment and graft are not happy partners.
What about Prince Alberts

I got mine caught in the bacon slicer when I was a butcher, they sacked us both
Don`t wear my wedding ring to work any longer, not since it got squashed into an oval shape and took hours to remove from a very swollen finger.
Wedding rings are usually permitted although in those places where they are an issue they normally ask you to tape over them rather than remove them
