Camping gas cans

Daft question but here goes. Does this hot weather create a danger when storing these in your truck? I have one in my locker and don’t want it to go pop. Thanks

I think they won’t get all that hot in the locker but if you’re worried about them keep them on the bunk of your air conditioned cab…unless you’ve got a punchy dan type truck that doesn’t have such frivolous unnecessary nonsense [emoji23]

I’ve never forgot the sound of a gas cylinder relief valve fully opening on an RV at a fuel station/cafe parked next to me while I was filling up just outside Las Vegas when I was touring around the Western states in mid Summer. The temperature was well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the shade let alone in the burning heat of the sun.It was hotter than anything I’d experienced before or since including plenty of Italian Summers. :open_mouth:

Never thought about it to be honest. Mine live on the top bunk all year round, stove in a top locker.

Chuck them in the fridge to be safe.

My cans say max temp 50C… so I think they’ll be fine in my top locker!

If left in direct sunlight behind glass they can go off quite spectacularly. Worse case is a fireball in the cab .
My old man had a plastic lighter explode in his car after he left it on the dash shelf in the sunlight while he was at work .
The preferred is in a cool place out of direct sunlight.

Yes, you need to guard against this ^^^^^! However, I never had any problems with them on Middle-East / North Africa work, but I used to stow the little cans out of direct sunlight through the windscreen; and for my big bottle I bought a simple reflective cowl from the souk in Tangiers (Morocco) as seen in pic (taken in Tunisia) below.
