EDDIE STOBART FAN:
With cowboy outfits like this in the haulage indsutry, it is no wonder that Stobbies became the top haulier. Cowboys like this should not be in business. People defending this outfit need to hold their heads in shame.

stobarts are ■■■■■■■■, they take all the work off the small haulier and put family run companies that have been going for years and years out of business, i think its everyone who class’es themselves as a ‘stobart fan’ should hang their head in shame as it is stobart that is ruining the once great haulage industry!!!

shuttlespanker:
and just what would you know about Log Books dbt? :unamused:

you’re only just old enough to drive the trucks, let alone know about log books

i know enuf about log books to know it was better before tachos

How the ■■■■ has Stobart put anyone out of business!!! They all started out with one truck, Stobart has taken gambles when others haven’t. Gets right on my ■■■■ stobarts did this that and the next thing… Stobart had taken and made oppertunitys and done rather well by it, they also have keep thousands of people employed for a bloody long time not like eg… Securicor, hanbury Davis, russel Davis who took the money and sold up and stuff the employees weather they got kept at the new company or not.

I’m not of fan of stobarts one way or the other but applaud what they have done.

I don’t know how long you’ve been driving trucks, but rose tinted specs are a great thing, but the past is best left just there.
I remember my early days trucking, with fondness, then I have have a reality check. Stripping tilts, dodgy trailers, rough, uncomfortable, small cabbed, under powered trucks. Night heater considered a luxury and Air con unheard of.
The Boss moaning about the price of fuel and being undercut by big hauliers and wanting us to turnover x ammount per truck to make a profit.
Then I have a chat with a friend of mine who shut his haulage company in the mid 70’s. Why did he do it? fuel costs, being undercut by others haulier, drivers costing him money in vehicle damage.

Sound familiar.

Forgot to mention waiting around on a Friday night, off card, to get your Groupage trailer loaded, then getting a few hours kip so you could get it to the docks by the next morning.

my dad is dead he died when i was 17, so that’s abit hard :imp:

i dont think your slow, u know exactly what i mean , name another job (apart from prostitution) where you get thrown in jail for trying to do a honest hard days work? its unfair how people can drive tractors for example for 20 hours a day 7 days a week without receiving punishment for it, yet we would be labeled ‘cowboys’ and so on for trying to earn a decent wage on what scraps are lefft due to the large haulier having all the bread and butter work, as for ‘stobart’s’ rates?? just look at his turnover and profit margin?

Why do you want to do the sort of hours that would get you thrown into prison?

All industries suffer from the same problem of the big companies taking the best work, but to be honest the like of Stobarts,Wincantons etc are really only interested in each others work and multi million pound contracts.
You ask a somebody running a small shop whats it like when the likes of Tesco or Sainburys build a store a few miles away?

And do you really think your wages would go up if you went back to log books? Or would you just earn the same money but have to do longer hours to compete with all the others who are fiddling thier log books to earn extra money.

why should you get such punishment when other jobs dont get no bother, my original point is it’s no1’s business how young ran his business, i think it’s better without tacho’s.why do u think the yanks don’t want them?

OK mate, firstly I apologise for the crack about your Dad, I would never know that,so I,m sorry, but if you had clarified your point a bit better instead of implying I was a bit thick, you would have found that I actually agree with everything that you have said, but the unlikely event of bringing back Logbooks is deffo not the answer to the many problems in this industry, it would make the job 100x worse not better.
