my dad is dead he died when i was 17, so that’s abit hard
i dont think your slow, u know exactly what i mean , name another job (apart from prostitution) where you get thrown in jail for trying to do a honest hard days work? its unfair how people can drive tractors for example for 20 hours a day 7 days a week without receiving punishment for it, yet we would be labeled ‘cowboys’ and so on for trying to earn a decent wage on what scraps are lefft due to the large haulier having all the bread and butter work, as for ‘stobart’s’ rates?? just look at his turnover and profit margin?
OK mate, firstly I apologise for the crack about your Dad, I would never know that,so I,m sorry, but if you had clarified your point a bit better instead of implying I was a bit thick, you would have found that I actually agree with everything that you have said, but the unlikely event of bringing back Logbooks would make the job 100x worse not better
i apologize if you thought i was implying you were thick… i dont …
Look at the problems the knob (who will remain nameless ) who bothered to revive this 2yr old thread has kicked off , reckon he,s got too much time on his hands or what? somebody send him some Stobbie photos too keep him occupied ffs
shuttlespanker:
and just what would you know about Log Books dbt?
you’re only just old enough to drive the trucks, let alone know about log books
cheaky bugger… i might be young but ive been driving them for nearly 6 years now and been around them all my life just because your old rob and going bald and unbelievably ugly doesn’t mean you can take the mick out of me too

Lets gets some fact here shall we, the difference in your example is quite plain, its the law. They don’t do it for 20hrs a day 7 days a week 52 weeks a year do they? Yes at the minute there are some big hours in agriculture, but also alot of rest time too, in the last 14 days I’ve done 3 days on the harvest and the rest in the workshop/days off/ general work, longest day has been 15 hrs last friday. Add to that the majority of the time will be spent off road. Last year I averaged 7hrs/day at work over the whole year, now work yours out and see who does the most hours.
Try knowing what your talking about before you start spouting, and for the record been in farming all my life (37yrs) and had 12 yrs on haulage before going back farming full time

Some acreage then if it takes 4 months of 20 hrs days
We start in March with maize drilling and go through till mid november with the harvest, its on and off work, yes some weeks are 7 days and long hours, bt not every week. what you asking for with log books would not be on and off, it would all be on. Thats why the hours laws were brought in. It would be the same in agriculture if it was a problem.
Have you actually done a harvest, or is it all just what you’ve heard?

yes mate for a farmer who supply’s for walker crisps, alot of acres to be sure… he also had rented land to grow more… the tractor was a JD 6930, real nice tractor to be fair…
Biggest we’ve got is a 7530 auto power, bloody loverly to drive.
Know what you mean about the mud, hoping this year maize isn’t as bad as last years. At one point had 3 180hp+tractors dragging the forager out, thats when an easy job turns into a 20 hrs nightmare

7530 is decent bit of kit mate,
I would say “Get a room, you 2” but probably more accurate to say “get a 5 bar gate and some straw to chew on”

sorry i forgot… this forum is only for sarcastic comments and arguements
glenman:
i think dbt out trumped henrys cat with the tractors and acreage.
Very much doubt it Glenman, I personally own 90 acres, then work for a contractor who does around 4500acre grass silage, 800 acres whole crop silage, and 1200acres maize silage. Thats without the other ploughing, drilling, combing and other stuff we do. In total we probably work over something in the region of 7000 acres
