It boils down to a couple of things;
Can help save the company money in the event of an accident,
And sadly drivers do stupid things everyday, look how many are on the phone.
Talk of this at my new place of work. I’ve been straight to management as typical driver rumours and Chinese whispers aren’t always from a trust worthy source.
I’ve been told they have looked at all the different types of cameras, and the insurance premium could go down massively with forward and possibly rear facing cameras, that’s fair enough to me. There’s not been a huge discussion on driver facing cameras but he thinks it doubtful it’ll come in. I said I’ll walk the first day they arrive if they’re brought in to watch us. Instantly we all imagine a tm watching desperate to find us at fault but even this manager knows how to talk the lingo so I won’t be taking it literally.
We can’t get drivers at our place as it is, if some of us walked and left them short, if agency drivers also refused as they’re all so busy they’d have nothing moving and no money being made it’d be business suicide! Maybe the outfits that treat drivers with respect night get away with these cameras as the trust might be there to use only when a bump occurs which is the intention ‘apparently’. As we all know too well though, most will use these set ups to make examples of people and that certainly won’t go down well with the work force.
Or how many are reading this whilst on the move?
plenty of other work out there to be bothering with companies with cameras in the cabs!
how can i play games watch dvds and pick my nose with someone watching?
Hopefully the steam from my kettle on the gas porta-stove would fog up the lens anyway
I had an hours (well 11/4 ) kip today woke up first thing I done was turn ignition on to take taco off break, also turns the bloody camera on, jumped out the wagon for a pee at the front off the wagon (layby kip) no not on the wagon
and thought f I’ve just been recorded
Camera inside the cab ? It would depend on which way its facing!
If it is to face inwards inside the cab a definate No No , deprivation/invasion of privacy
if it is to face outwards facing the traffic, it probably wouldn’t bother me .
There are trackers on our vehicles anyway, & the office bods know exactly where you are , wether you are stationary or moving even whether you have the ignition turned on or off, at what speed you are travelling down what road, in short a spy in the camp! . They have been know to record you to be another area quite some distance away, so they are not always accurate either.
I have nothing to hide so continue as normal, if I neex to stop at the services or anywhere for break , then I will. I dont take the mick , just get on with the job.
. . . and I would have been back in the office in a flash for another unit. If all the units were fitted with cameras I would have been on my way home after phoning the agency to tell them why.
