Camera van paranoia!

I’m probs worrying about nothing in all honesty, but I’m defo one to worry about ‘the worst that could happen’ and in this instance the worst case scenario is pretty bad.

So, one of the clips on my phone holder broke yesterday and I’ve been using a bit of blu tac until my new holder arrives in post tomorrow. All’s been good so far until I hit a bump earlier today and bloody thing came out the holder and bounced off my knee into the driver footwell.

As it was half under the pedals I waited until I’d slowed down and reached down to grab it. Eyes on the road at all times. Fumbled it a couple of times but manage to grab it with my fingers on the screen. As I go to chuck it down in the tray I hear it ringing and looking down I’ve somehow managed to quickdial my boss who was last person in call list. Quickly swiped to cancel (was only 6am) and chucked phone down.

I then check o/s mirror to move over and see I’ve just driven past a bloody camera van on other side of the road. Nobody in the front seats but I’m guessing maybe in the back. I’m now ■■■■■■■■ it in case I’ve been seen holding phone. Didn’t raise it to my ear or anything like that but my seat is pretty high, almost level with window.

Wondering whether the cameras would capture that high or not (I’m thinking probably) and also whether they usually sit and watch screen or whether they wait for a beep or whatever to indicate speeding and then check the footage etc. I’m guessing they must watch the screen if they catch people on their phones.

I think I’d be very unlucky to be caught with it in my left hand at waist height but it would be sod’s law as I literally never phone while driving or anything like that. Got a nice cushy job I like where I don’t need to rush or bend the rules.

I would say,no point worrying, whats done is done. You could tell them what you told us.
I accidently called my boss once on the bluetooth. We werent allowed to use bluetooth, but I pressed redial!

Camera van…

On the opposite side of the road behind you?

No chance, get on with your day and buy a new phone holder.

You should have been driving long enough now to not give a ■■■■ about such things.
Just the other day I spent about half a mile in central London in a bus lane haven’t lost a wink of sleep over it

As a general rule enforcement takes place on the side of the road in which the van is parked with the operator facing on coming traffic they have a forward facing camera to gather evidence motorcyclists speeding for example.

Their are specific vans for seat belts mobile phones etc these are quite different with elevated cameras on the roof I’ve only ever seen one of these however with every other car/van driver holding a phone and the easy profit from such drivers they won’t be rare for long.
