Cambridge Company Wants To Tun All Freight Underground

Just listening to the radio and came across this company that wants a network of underground lanes to run alongside main roads in an effort to remove lorries from the roads.

Its a brilliant idea but sureley it would need more lorrys on the road to build it than it would save? Of course the practicality of actually doing it, now would be unreal .

A better idea would be to build tunnels for the cars, they don’t need as much space so they don’t need as big a hole in the ground :unamused: :unamused: :bulb:

Load of nonsense :unamused:

Is this an early April fools?
It’s just taken them 5 years to install trams from Ashton under lyne into manchester, roughly about 20 miles of track all in all…how long would it take to install this system covering whole of cities about 100 years?!and in the mean time mass congestion from the road works ect!

This is exactly the sort of thing I used to think about while driving up boring motorways. The obvious thing would be to install it with all new motorways or when they are rebuilt. The biggest problem for me would be bridges which would need major work. Of course they wouldn’t HAVE to follow motorways but could cut across field if that was more appropriate.

My other idea is that major industrial areas should have a transfer depot for deliveries and collections. All the internal transport would be by electric trucks - driverless maybe.

Just thought of a good name for it, they could call it Train

^^^^ SUBtrain ^^^^

subtrainean!

na you’ll have all the do gooders yapping on about all the damage to the under-environment… mind I don’t understand why they don’t do subterranean out of town park and ride connected by rail. or even when they build these big shopping malls delivery’s could be all done at night with overnight parking a MT car park.
Free parking (if delivering )with loos shower blocks ( costs covered by stores ) with the use of restaurants cinema’s etc that would bring further income into the area. other drivers would pay a min fee say £5 that would allow use of the showers

agreed

and the lorrys could run on tracks with no drivers

Cambridge must be gluttons for punishment. They have only recently completed a guided bus route which has yet to realise any of the benefits that it promised and as always with these projects ran substantially over budget with the contractors Bami Nuttall attempting to increase the cost further with the usual exorbitant contract claims. No doubt us mug tax payers will pick up the bill at the end of the day.
