Which truck would you like to have a go in to compare it to the modern stuff, I like most of you have had a go in lots of trucks but some of them slipped my grasp .

got a few i can think of seen loads, ridden in a few but never got to drive them they were local to me so used to see them out & about quite regular
Leyland Marathon 2 can remember seeing a local haulier had one or two on bulk tipper
Volvo F88 & 89
Scania 111
Bedford TM an old boss used to have a rotten day cabbed one in the corner of the yard but hadn’t been used for some years , he also had a sleeper cab from a wrecked TM ex-Walon transporter that he was going to one day fit to the chassis that was 1993ish ? wouldn’t be surprised if the undergrowth has claimed it all now though

can remember my first artic though, a Scania 112 360 i thought that was great , but i was all wide eyed at the time .

another favourite for some sadistic reason was a seddon 400 double drive 6 wheel bulk blower with a david brown gearbox & gardner 240 engine cruise controll was via metal water pipe wedged under the seat onto the throttle as you could never keep you’re left foot down for longer than a few minutes due to the govners trying to throttle back & the way the linkage went from one side of the engine all the way round to the other  fixed sprung brown vynl seats that looked like they’d been pinched from a morris minor :open_mouth: the exhaust fell off in the yard so it was welded back into an upright position behind the cab & an old washing machine drum was split, rolled out & wrapped around the exhaust box to give it that stainless steel look   she’d cruise at 70 though  if you were brave enough :open_mouth: this was my drive when my FL7 was in for repairs :sunglasses:

I never drove a Crusader but always thought they looked the part. A close mate got a brand new Michelotti Handyman with a 220 Rolls Eagle. It was only used to move their Barth draining machine around East Yorkshire and occasionally collect land tiles from Escrick. They used it for about 15 years and I bet it only had 60000 when they swapped it, wish I knew where it was now. It was replaced by a Unimog :frowning:

Huh, I had one from 1996 to 2002. Full weight throug the Ardennes.down to Spain. No problem.Didn’t change them to a Magnum and left Company after it went off Road.
Miss the Fuller,F89,502,F16 Few nice lorries in the Past
Think on Can of Buessing Underfloor. Luxus in the seventies many still dream today of.

Don’t think i would like to go back to the old trucks. used to drive a bedford, no power steering, crash gear box, heating was none existant, you would freeze your nuts off in winter, sweat like a pig in summer, the only radio, if you were lucky, was AM only, but it didn’t matter because you couldn’t hear it anyway! suspension was rock solid, the seat was slightly more comfortable than a wooden bench, with no adjustment, no heated mirrors, window might open if you were lucky, and if you wanted to sleep in it, you carried a plank that went betwen the seats. OK, so no speed limiter, but it took so long to get to 70 MPH, it was no quicker getting anywhere.
I’ve driven AEC Mandators, leyland marathons and road trains, various dodges and Bedfords, ford cargos and transcons, seddy atkis, Old Scanias, volvos and Mercs and of course, more ERF’s that i wish to remember.
now this last two weeks I’ve had a Volvo FH globey with air con, climate control, i-tronic gear box, comfortable bunk, lots of pulling power, electric windows and roof hatch, fully adjustable heated seat with lumber suport, arm rests, 6 speaker stereo radio CD player.
would i swap this FH for any of the old trucks? would i f***!
